Advantages: very tasty

Disadvantages: slightly expensive

Well, I love jaffa cakes and I love mini rolls so when I saw the Mcvites Jaffa Cake mini rolls on offer at Sainsburys I knew I just had to try them. They come in packets of six that cost £1.35. That seems quite a lot per cake but as these were on a 'buy one get one free' offer it made them much better value.

They come with the familiar blue and orange jaffa cake wrapping and logo and each mini roll is individually wrapped. It reads on the packaging that these are 'the perfect blend of dark crackly chocolate and light sponge with a zingy orange centre. Well it sounded really good so I had to see if they would live up to their promise!

Each mini roll is reasonably sized and will probably afford about five or six decent mouthfuls. When you unwrap one it looks like most other chocolate mini rolls apart from the fact that it has lovely dark chocolate which I love. The chocolate is quite thick as well which makes it even better. When you bite into one there is a teriffic combination of the sponge, orange filling and dark chocolate. It tastes delicious. The flavours all work together really well - just like they do on a normal jaffa cake! One problem is that they taste so good that when you have finished eating one, you really would like to eat another.

I also like the whiff you get of orange combined with chocolate. It's not overpowering but just enough to be enticing! I also like the consistency of the rolls. They are quite moist and this is added to with the addition of the very zingy orange filling. This is in contrast to the crackly hardness of the chocolate especially if you have kept them in the fridge which I prefer to do!

The chocolate coating is quite crackly which can be a slight problem if you're sharing them with small children as they can fall apart in their hands and be quite messy! Mind you, what am I talking about - these are far too good for children!

On the packaging we get all the nutritional values. Each bar contains 119 calories which is just about reasonable but I think I'd best not have that second one! There is also 3.5 grams of fat of which 2.0 grams are saturated. It's not the healthiest of snacks but it's certainly not the unhealthiest either!

There is a bit of humour on the packaging as well which addresses all jaffaholics! There is a Jaffaholics Anonymous helpline you can call if you think you have a problem! Personally I think it would be pretty easy to become a jaffaholic!

Overall then these are very tasty little cake bars which are lovely after a meal or as a treat. I do think that the pack of six is a little expensive (£1.35) but if you ever see them on special offer they are definitely worth trying!

Summary: A lovely treat!

Damn, I wished I liked orange with chocolate because these sound lovely, but they just don't seem to go together! Great review.
