Advantages: Chocolate, sponge
Disadvantages: calories but its chocolate so they don't count
Some cakes/biscuits have through the years become classics, indeed legends. Such is the case with the item I am about to review the " Jaffa Cake ". I think it is perhaps the pure simplicity of this delicious bite that has held it in the highest esteem by many for so long. There is nothing complicated or gimicky about them they are simply delicious.
The bright blue box with the orange emblazoned Jaffa cake written across it front it for most shoppers an everyday sight and because of this they are sometimes overlooked.
You have to look inside this bright box to find the secrets held within. A long plastic bag houses the neatly arranged Jaffa Cakes. Their golden sponge standing out against the dark brown chocolate that covers the top of each cake.
It seems a sin to spoil the symmetry that lies in front of me but the review must be completed so disturb it I must. For a chocolate/biscuit/cake lover like myself there are perhaps 3 bites in a jaffa cake so the symmetry must be disturbed on a few ocassions in order to verify the taste and texture.
The first bite introduces my taste buds to the slightly hard sponge, it is sweet but not too sweet, and is quickly joined by the bittersweet taste of the delicious chocolate. My taste buds are just recovering when they are assaulted by the tangiest orangiest loveliest jelly centre. WOW lets do that again. When the flavours are combined during the chewing process your taste buds are left slightly confused but ecstatic, the chocolate and sponge are just delish together but the introduction of the orange centre just make s the whole experience orgasmic.
Jaffa Cakes in packets of about 15 cost in the region of 70 odd pence but are well worth it. I have seen them many times on special offer at Somerfields and ASDA so look out for the best deal. And prepare to be orgasmofied.
Summary: great with your cuppa
