Advantages: Taste great, not too unhealthy

Disadvantages: Not as healthy as eating an apple

I've got such a sweet tooth and it's only got worse since I had children! One f my favourites are Jaffa Cakes and I could quite happily polish off a whole box in one sitting....

In case you've been living in a box your whole life, Jaffa Cakes are a 5cm diameter round piece of sponge, covered in dark chocolate with a 'smashing orangey bit' (their words) inside. Some people think that the orange jelly inside is actually made from apricots flavoured with tangerine oil, but if you look at the ingredients, apricots and tangerines aren't mentioned at all. It's just made from orange juice (and sugar and gelatin...)

The best way to eat Jaffa Cakes, I find, is to have several and dip them in a hot cup of tea. Dunk for a couple of seconds and cram in your mouth. Don't dunk for too long, though, as they have a tendency to disintegrate.

Jaffa Cake Fact
===========
Jaffa Cakes are definitely a cake and not a biscuit. The Tax Office took McVities to court claiming that in fact Jaffa Cakes are a 'luxury biscuit' and therefore liable for VAT. McVities claimed they weren't and won on the basis that Jaffa Cakes go hard when stale (like cake does), whereas biscuits go soft when stale.

McVities (who are prt of United Biscuits) also make Jaffa Cake Bars, Jaffa Mini Rolls, Jaffa Cake Muffins. You can also get lime and blackcurrant flavoured Jaffa Cakes, if orange isn't your thing.

What makes Jaffa Cakes so great as far as I'm concerned is that there s only 1.2 grams of fat in each one and 46 calories. OK, there's not much as far as vitamins, minerals, protein etc are concerned, but if you're looking fr a not-too-unhealthy snack then this has to be a contender.

If you're a real Jaffa Cake nut, then you can also check out this website:

Enjoy!

Summary: Go on, you know you want to
