Mc Vities Jaffa Cakes
Description: Manufacturer: Mc Vitie's / Type: Biscuit
I am sure that you have seen these and most probably eaten them too. Just in case you haven't though, they are small circular biscuits (or cakes, depending on what you believe!) with a sponge base. There is a layer of orange flavoured jelly on top (in the middle) and they are then topped with dark chocolate.
You can now get them topped with milk chocolate, and also blackcurrant and lime flavours, but for me, nothing beats the originals.
These come in a dark blue cardboard box with the words "Jaffa Cakes" written across the front in big orange letters. Inside, the cakes are sealed in a cellophane pack for freshness.
I must also point out that each Jaffa Cake has only 46 calories and 1g of fat, so they are much better for you than some treats. These do feel like a treat too, they are just the right amounts of sponge, orange and chocolate and are tangy and sweet. They quickly melt in your mouth, and feel light, and never stodgy.
You can buy these in most shops and supermarkets, each box has around 12 cakes in it and they retail for around £0.85. You can also buy double boxes, which is good because these are quite addictive and you are likely to find that you eat these quite quickly!
So, are they a cake or a biscuit? Well, McVities don't get charged VAT on this product because they are classed as a cake. (If they were classed as biscuits they would apparently have to pay VAT - how bizarre!) so that's the official line. Unofficially, the debate continues!
Summary: Stash them
