Jaffa Cakes. An old favourite of mine. The original ones are made by Mcvities, but go into any supermarket and you will find a supermarket brand of them. Most of the cheaper brands taste good, but nothing beats the original.

Jaffa cakes have been around for as far as I remember. So what are they? They are round cakes. They are sponge on the bottom. Actually the sponge probably makes up half of the cake, then on top of the sponge is a round bit of Orange jelly, then over the top of everything there is milk chocolate. There was a limited edition full chocolate Jaffa cake out before and I thought I would love them, but they didn?t taste as good as the normal one.

The normal packaging for Jaffa Cakes is in a rectangular cardboard box. The box is blue with Orange writing. Each box contains 12 cakes and each cake contains 46 calories. This costs around 60p-80p There is also a Jaffa Cake tube, which is still Blue with Orange writing. This contains 15 Jaffa Cakes, but they are slightly smaller in size than the ones in the box. These cost around 72p-90p. The other way of buying Jaffa cakes is with Mini Jaffa Cakes. These are in an Orange plastic box with a Blue cardboard sleeve. The box contains 6 snack packs each containing 6 mini Jaffa Cakes. These are just over half the size of normal Jaffa Cakes. These are the most expensive and they are probably around £1.15-£1.45.

Another way to get your Orange Jelly fix is with Jaffa Cake bars or Jaffa Cake mini rolls. The cake bars are chubby rectangular slabs of the original Jaffa Cake. I don?t like these that much as the Orange seems quite overpowering and the sponge is really soft and breaks up easily. These cost 98p-£1.20 I haven?t tried the Mini Rolls yet, but they look just like Cadbury?s Mini rolls, but contain the orange jelly swirled around inside instead of cream. I think you get 15 in a tough plastic tub and this costs £1.60-£2.00.

So what is my opinion of the humble, ancient Jaffa Cake?
I, like everyone I know Love them. I think they are very addictive. When I open a box I will probably eat at least half of them if not more. It is easy done, while watching TV and the box is right next to you. I just reach subconsciously for it and before you know it they are gone. Still they are cheap, as I only buy the box of them.

Pity I?m on a diet just now, as now I could do with some!

I'm on a diet too, and unfotunately I wouldn't be able to stick to just one jaffa cake I'd have to eat the whole box! Therefore I will be avoiding them until I've lost another *ahem* in weight ;-) Great review.

I love these, you could always have one on your diet, 50-odd calories isn't that many...
