Advantages: Creamy, moreish, lots of flavours
Disadvantages: cost
Every year when our family go to the West Dean Chilli Fiesta (see earlier review) I always ensure I visit and buy my favourite fudge of all time.
Fudge has always been a sweet treat for me after chocolate of course, but has always been in small cubes individually wrapped in plastic.
Jim Garrahy's fudge is made in one long slab and cut into slices, about 1 inch thick. each slice is then sold by weight, or alternatively you can buy a selection of your choice for a set price, I always go for 3 slices for £10. Yes before you think that's expensive fudge, have you ever tried it??
As I break a small piece off it crumbles slightly, but then as I place it in my mouth you can taste the sweetness you would expect from fudge, followed by the creamyness this make gives, it also melts slowly in your mouth, releasing gentle flavours and depending on the flavour other textures as well. It leaves a pleasant, yet sweet after taste in your mouth, and is so moreish it is very easy to finish off a whole slice in one go.
I normally treat myself once a year to this fudge, but as my husband went to the good food show the other day, he bought me back a box as an extra treat. I try to make the box last a week but it is very difficult. If you can resist, it will keep for up to 7-10 days, if you want it to last longer then you can freeze it, but it's not suitable to keep in the fridge!
According to the packaging and website, they have over 20 different flavours, including Belgian chocolate swirl, traditional toffee, strawberries and cream, maple walnut, rich chocolate orange, double trouble chocolate, and boozy fruit and nut. New flavours are often introduced and seasonal flavours are available too, to buy from one of their shops across the country, online or at a food fayre. For those of you allergic to dairy or follow a vegan diet they even produce a dairy free slice too, not sure how creamy that would be though!!

Update 05/05/09
At Christmas my husband had bought me a set of 6 pieces of this lovely fudge, he placed it in the freezer where it will keep well. We went on a strict diet in the new year and the fudge was left untouched. Just recently I remembered it was in there and started to sample the flavours given to me.
As each piece had been wrapped individually they were easy to separate and remove a piece at a time. each piece takes a couple of hours to defrost thoroughly, and lasts only a day or two in our house.
Out of the 6 pieces (which have now all been eaten) 4 of them continued to stay solid, whilst the other two went really gooey and very sticky - not sure why this happened. They all tasted just as good as they would have been fresh. When I next see these on sale I will buy in bulk and freeze them all for later.
Summary: Once you've tried this, you'll never eat an individually wrapped cube of fudge again!!
