Something smells a little fishy, Yes it’s my tin of tuna. I opened it to make a sandwich. There’s no mistaking that fish smell. The tin I opened today is john west tuna chunks in sunflower oil a 200g tin also available in 100g tins. The tin has a green label with a yellow swirl of colour John west is written in capital letters in white. Tuna is also available in brine or spring water. My husband must have bought this as I usually choose the tuna in brine. Or spring water. Tuna is good for you containing essential oils. John west tuna in sunflower oil contains189 kcal per 100 g drained John west tuna comes in sunflower oil, brine, spring water, The tuna in this tin comes from the Seychelles, Ghana and the Maldives This tuna was bought at Tesco’s in a multi pack of 4 for about £2.40 The tins are available singly at about 80p each or in various sizes of multipacks often buy one get one free deals. Tinned tuna has a long life this one is best before 00.12. 07 This tuna has been caught in a dolphin friendly way I would not buy otherwise. Dolphins often swim with tuna and get caught in nets under the water. As dolphins need air to breath they get suffocated Opening the can I find small chunks of tuna immersed in oil The oil is easy to drain away leaving chunks. Now how shall I eat my tuna? Plain tuna sandwich, or shall I add some mayonnaise to it? Shall I add it to pasta and make a pasta salad/ or maybe a salad nicoise maybe use it as a topping to a pizza or as a hot dish a tuna casserole? or a tuna pate? To serve with hot buttered toast Let me give you a couple of recipies Tuna pate Mash the 200g tuna with 150g/4oz butter season with lemon juice, salt and pepper and 1 teaspoon of anchovy essence a little salt and pepper pile it into a serving dish spread it flat garnish with cucumber or nasturtium leaves spread on hot buttered toast great for a snack or a fishy s
tarter, Tuna and pasta salad 85g, 3oz cooked pasta drained. Add150 ml, 1/4 pint French dressing to the pasta, season with salt and pepper. Stir in 200g can of flageolet beans rinsed and drained, and a 200g can of borlotti beans also rinsed and drained chop up a bunch of spring onions and add also add ½ tablespoon chopped chives and a squeeze of lemon juice add a tablespoon of chopped parsley. Then add the tuna gently mixing so you do not break the tuna up to much pile it into a serving dish place some olives on the top of it and scatter some more chopped chives and parsley on This is good served with some crispy French bread Oh I wish my kitchen was finished, there is only so much I can do with a microwave. Thanks for reading Mary

- 10/07/04 mmm... tuna - you can do so much with it. I like it with Brine though.
Thanks for the good luck wishes for the interview. I got the job - i'm now head of my department. Hope it's all going well for you. We've kinda got the busy bit over and done with now...not too much more to do. we're going to try for a relaxing, un-pressured last week (and 2 days). Hope you manage to do the same.

- 04/07/04 Nice op!
I love tuna but I always buy tins with brine. I'm not keen on oil. |
