I like to think of myself as a decent coo- I can whip up a decent pasta sauce or a healthy casserole easily, but one thing I really can't get the hang of is pastry. To make a decent pastry you need to be fast and have nice cold hands - sad to say, I'm pretty slow and have rather hot hands, which means that the butter in pastry melts too fast , making it a rather hit and miss affair . So, I'm not ashamed to say that I cheat a little, and that I tend to buy ready made pastry rather than make my own . And Jus-Rol is the only pre made brand I am aware of - with shortcrust pastry in blue packaging and puff pastry in red . Jus-Rol started in the 1930s ... Read the complete review

I would consider myself a reasonable cook. I like to try new things and experiment, but, the thought of making my own puff pastry always sends me skipping to the next in the cook book. I decided I really wanted to make a chicken and mushroom pie, but really didn't want to risk making the pastry myself and ruining the whole dish. My friend suggested I try JusRol Puff pastry, which you can buy frozen from most super markets. I purchased mine from Tesco and left it in the fridge to defrost until I needed it the following evening. The pastry cost about £1.50. I initally thought that this was quite expensive but when you work out how much time it saves ... Read the complete review

I think that most of us would agree that it is fairly easy to whip up a bit of shortcrust pastry but there is no way that you can improvise and turn out a half decent puff pastry without having time to spare. Of course rough puff pastry is a short cut but even that takes time. My pastry can be a bit hit and miss, some days it melts in your mouth and other days you could sole boots with it! On the whole the Other Half tends to gracefully accept what is put in front of him and make the most of it, but he does prefer puff pastry to shortcrust. We house-people ( please note no sexism!) have to be crafty and if that means telling a little porky now and again ... Read the complete review

Just say 'puff pastry' to me & it brings back horrible memories of having to make it in my 'A' level Home Economics classes at school. Don't get me wrong, I DO love to cook, but making puff pastry is such a long process with all the chilling, folding & rolling etc. Thank goodness Jus-Rol do it ready-made as it saves so much time! I have found this quite hard to find sometimes but luckily our local Iceland now sell it so I can make sure I always have some in the freezer. The packaging is just plastic which is sufficient to hold the 2 blocks, they cost just £2 & the blocks weigh 500g each. I like the way there are 2 separate ... Read the complete review

I normally make my own short crust pastry, but I hadn't made puff pastry before, and when looking at a recipe on the internet, I thought the instructions sounded a little bit long-winded. I had bought Jus-Rol shortcrust pastry once before (although like I said I normally make my own so I can't remember why), and thought I'd give their puff pastry a go, rather than risking it going wrong doing it on my own! The pastry is frozen and comes in two blocks. They make different sized packs - mine had two blocks each weighing 340g each, but I've since seen Iceland selling packs where you get two blocks weighing 500g each. The blocks are individually wrapped, so no ... Read the complete review
