Advantages: Taste yummy, delicious with ice cold milk, nice and fresh

Disadvantages: can get sickly towards the end of the bowlful, aren't as healtnhy as other cereals, aren't as filling as they could be

There are many varieties of crunchy nut cornflakes but in my opinion nothing can beat the Kelloggs version. With a gorgeous blend of honey and nuts, kelloggs crunchy nut cornflakes are full of flavour and offer a fantastic taste experience.

*** First Comes The Sweet Aroma ***

The first thing I noticed when I opened the pack was how fresh the packaging had kept the cornflakes. I always used to think it was rubbish when I saw on the adverts that the freshness is different to any other cereals and it really made all the difference, to me packaging is packaging and I'm more interested in the product itself rather than what it's dressed up in. But in this case as soon as I opened the pack I was greeted with a very pleasant, sweet, nutty smell. They really did smell quite strong and fresh and to me that was a great first impression. The aroma really does wet your appetite and gets your digestion system working.

*** Then Comes The White Stuff ***

The flakes not only smell fresh but they look fresh too. The colour is so much more vibrant than with shops own brands and when you pour ice cold milk over them they just look delicious. But the main thing that sets kelloggs apart from the rest here is the taste. The nuts really stand out and the honey helps make the cereals nice and sweet. The two really do compliment each other and the nuts tame down the sweetness to make them less sickly than they would be without them. They are quite crunchy which is nice. Call me strange but I love the feeling of crunching down on them. The fact that I spend a long time chewing them before I swallow them seems to fill me up quicker than some other cereals do too so that's a good thing!

*** My Opinion On... ***

Here I will expand a little on the things mentioned above and hopefully you'll find all the information you'll need to decide whether or not to buy them.

1) The Sweetness

I know a lot of people have reservations as to how sweet the flakes will be. Obviously with honey on them they are going to have a certain sweetness to them and I admit if you fill your bowl quite high with them they can get a bit sickly. As I said though the nuts really help disguise the sweetness and although they are sweet they aren't too much. It does say on the guidelines on the packaging how much you should have in your bowl and if you follow those guidelines it will probably make them less sickly as you will have less than what you would if you just poured yourself a bowl. If you aren't into overly sweet cereals I would recommend you only have a small bowlful of these but if like me you like something sweet to wake up to, a nice big bowl will best suit you.

2) How Long They Fill You Up For

A major factor I look for in a cereal is how filling it is. Now I've already mentioned that the length of time it takes me to chew the cereals makes me fuller quicker but as for the amount of time I stay full that's not that great. I look for a cereal that can keep me satisfied until around 12:30pm or at least 12:00pm when I would then have my dinner. These filled me up until 11:30am on most days. Now this may still be great for some people because I know a lot of people have snacks throughout the day and these cereals would fill you up until your next snack. It all depends on what your lifestyle is like.

3) Milk Tips

I feel that fresh, semi-skimmed milk goes best with these cereals. I personally couldn't have whole milk anymore but I think having whole milk with these cereals would make them even more sickly. Also ice cold milk is definitely better, it seems to give a much fresher, nicer flavour and is highly recommended by me! Just a small tip but every little helps!

4) Nutrition

With the sweet flavouring a big question might be how good the cereals actually are for you. Well I can say that they contain:

3g fat
177 calories

The above values are based on a 30g serving. I know for a fact I have more than 30g so the values will be slightly higher. I don't mind the calorie content but the fat content to me seems a little steep for a bowl of cereals. The values are also based on semi skimmed milk, if you have whole milk the values would go up.

The only worrying thing I worry about is the sugar content. After reading the ingredients it's easy to see there are two different types of sugar included in these and that cannot be a good thing surely? Apart from that though I don't see much wrong with them. They are also suitable for vegetarians. Obviously if you have any nut allergies you shouldn't buy these but I think that is pretty obvious with the name of the cereals and what they are made up of!

5) Price and Pack Size

I always look for bigger value packs of cereals because of our sometimes 'limited' budget. Lucky for me I've found these come in packs of 500g or 750g. I always opt for the 750g as they just about last me and my fiance a week and we have pretty big bowl fulls of them! You can get the 750g box for 2.44 and 1.78 for a smaller 500g box from Tesco. They are pretty widely available and you should find them in all supermarkets.

*** My Overall Opinion ***

I really do like these and they make a nice change to the healthier plain cereals. However they aren't something I would have on a permanant basis. I really don't feel they provide all the nutrition needed to start the day and I definitely need something a little more filling. They are good value for money though so if you are on a tight budget these could be for you. I do recommend them but again not on a permanant basis.

Great review, though I wouldn't like these as I don't like nuts. Jens x
