Advantages: crunchy and delicious breakfast cereal

Disadvantages: could do with a bit more fruit, in with the fibre.

My favourite meal of the day has got to be breakfast. For some reason when I get up from bed, I am always starving hungry. So I look forward to my breakfast, more than any other mealtime. Saying that I don't really go for bacon, eggs and all the trimmings. (unless I have a hangover!) I always enjoy more of a balanced breakfast and along with my fruit juice I must have a bowl of really good quality cereal.
I have been using Kellogg fruit and fibre for quite a while now and I have to say that although It is quite a bit more expensive that shop branded cereal It in my opinion is far more appealing.

The packaging
The packaging is quite bright and bold. It has a lilac colour box, with the famous red Kellogg logo on the front. Also It has a picture of the cereal, on the front, covered in lashing of milk. Which makes it very appealing to consumers. However I would have to say that the picture on the front, is not a true representation of the product. As the lovely sultanas and nuts are not quite as big in reality as they are displayed on the box. So although those ingredients make up the cereal they are not as big as indicated.
The packaging also displays all the information regarding the product that the consumer needs to know. with regards to dietary needs. The nutritional value of the cereal is clearly stated on the front of the box which I think is excellent as you don't have to look around the box trying to find the information you are looking for.
In regards to nutritional values It is worth pointing out that I was quite shocked to discover that in every 40g serving of this cereal there is 10g of sugar and 2.5g of fat. I was surprised by these values, as I think that both the sugar and fat content is quite high. when you consider that the sugar content makes up 10% of the actual serving. Also this can be extremely high if you have more than 40g serving. W,hich realistically most people would. I know I could never survive my daily routine with just 40g of cereal to keep me going till lunch.
Not only does the packaging display the nutritional values it also provides the consumer with vital information such as allergy advice. It also states clearly that this cereal is suitable for vegetarians. I also appreciate that the packaging can be recycled and therefore is environmentally friendly. One more point to note regarding the packaging is that you are provided with an web site address and a phone number. All customers are encouraged to get in touch, with any ideas that they may have, in order to improve the product.
The taste
When eating the cereal, the first thing that you can taste is the strong bran flavour of the bran flakes which indeed make up the majority of the contents of the cereal. However mixed in with the bran flakes is a variety of different fruits which are dried banana, raisins, coconut, apple and hazelnuts. Therefore every spoonful of the cereal, provides your taste buds with a fresh and sweet flavour,as you bite into a piece of the dried fruit. I personally think that the cereal tastes delicious. I always feel nice and full after this cereal which is great for a busy mum who is on the go all day. My only criticism would be that the bran flake to dry fruit ratio could be improved as there is quite a lot less fruit than there is bran flakes. Infact It states on the box that 28% of the contents of the cereal is dried fruit whilst the bran makes up 68% so I really do think that this cereal would be improved by adding more fruit.
The one thing that I love about this cereal is the texture. It is not to hard like cardboard but on the other hand it is not soft and soggy, It is deliciously crunchy and the dried sultanas adds depth by making the odd spoonfull very chewy.
In conclusion I would recommend Kellogg fruit and fibre cereal. However I have a bit of a biased view as I haven't tasted any other brands in this category. What I know is that I enjoy this breakfast cereal. I also feel as if it is good value for money. As the quality of the product is quite high. However there are some things that could indeed be improved apon. Such as adding more dried fruit. and trying to work out ways of lowering the fat content. But all in all it is a very safe bet for a tasty and filling breakfast.

Summary: great way to start your day.
