Advantages: Staves off hunger

Disadvantages: Too much sugar

Nutri-Grain Soft Bake Bars - Apple and Blackberry are one of the cereal bars I have on rotation to keep my grumbling tummy quiet until lunch! I buy my bars in boxes of 8 which, at £2.19 from Tesco's, makes each bar approximately 27 pence each. Not a bad price and the box will last you over a week (assuming you can limit yourself to one per day!)

The bars themselves have a soft oaty outer layer with a filling through the centre of blackberry and apple flavouring that has a jam-like consistency.

My main reason for eating these is my incessant desire to snack and this is my effort to steer clear of anything too unhealthy. The bars actually have about 30% sugar content so I don't really think they can be considered truly healthy but I cycle to and from work so feel I do enough to work this off. They manage to keep my hunger at bay for about an hour so they are doing the job that I bought them for.

I have had several types of cereal bars and find that the texture of these is the best for me. They are soft and crumbly meaning they can be eaten quietly at my desk! My one criticism would be that the blackberry flavour isn't terribly strong but this is only a minor thing really

I think cereal bars are a bit hit and miss. They're like Smoothies - everyone seems to assume that they're totally healthy.
