Advantages: Convenient
Disadvantages: Bland, sugary, not filling
I often find that I get hungry whilst on the move, and so I do my best to keep a constant supply of things to eat in my handbag. My requirements for these things are that they are portable, not messy, not too perishable, not too high in calories, and tasty. Rice Krispies Cereal and Milk Bars fulfil most of these, except for the last one!
These bars come in a cardboard box which holds 6 of the 20 gram bars. The box is a vivid blue colour just like the Rice Krispies cereal box, and features the cartoony characters of Snap, Crackle and Pop, carrying a large cereal bar. Inside the box each bar is individually wrapped which makes them very portable, and they are also in the same blue design with the three kids on, which will make them appealing and familiar to young children who are used to eating the cereal.
The bars are made up of rice puffs which have been pushed into a soft and chewy bar shape, which has a milky layer on the bottom. The bars are quite small, only about 3 inches long , and about an inch thick.
I was not very impressed with the taste of these bars as they don't have much flavour at all. The milk layer is too sweet and the rest of the bar is really insipid. However if you have fussy children they will probably enjoy the bars as the only real taste is of sweetness and maybe a bit of creaminess.
I also found that the bars weren't at all filling. Maybe for a child they would be OK but for me they were not a substitute for a proper bowl of cereal and I was hungry again minutes after eating one.
Health wise these bars aren't too bad. They have no artificial colours and no hydrogenated fats, and they are fortified with calcium, iron and 6 different vitamins. They only have 82 calories each, 2 grams of fat and 7 grams of sugar. A bit too much sugar but apart from that not too bad for either adults or kids.
These bars would be fine for a child on the go but for me they were not filling enough or tasty enough, so I won't be getting them again.
A pack of 6 of these costs £1.67 so they are not the cheapest snack available.
Other cereal and milk bars from Kellogg's include Coco Pops, Coco Rocks and Frosties.
Summary: Snap, crackle and...deflate
