Advantages: They are tasty, different and soft!
Disadvantages: for me theres none!
I'm not a breakfast person, but I do sometimes enjoy a small bowl of cereal as a dessert after tea. One cereal I do enjoy now and then is Rice Krispies.
Rice Krispies come in a bright blue boxes with their three fun characters decorating it. Snap, Crackle and Pop of course! Kellogg's is stamped at the top of the box and Rice Krispies original is written underneath. One of the cheeky characters are holding up a sign saying 'Made from grains of rice plus B vits and iron.
A 20g serving with 125ml semi-skimmed milk contains;
135 calories
8g sugars
2.5g fat
1.5g saturates
0.45g salt
Rice Krispies are a light looking, tiny and plain looking cereal. Puffed out rice grains, a pale creamy colour. As you pour milk over them you can hear the snapping, crackling and popping - hence the cheeky characters names. They quickly become soggy, making these an ideal cereal for people with sore throats and children. I say people with sore throats as when I was in hospital having my tonsils taken out the next morning they made us eat rice krispies, that way we were eating so they could check on us but wasn't struggling to do so as the rice krispies were soft and just slid down our throats with ease thanks to them being so small as well.
Being naughty I do add a spoonful of sugar to sprinkle over the top but if I'm honest they really don't need this. They have a subtle sweetness and they are not a dry or boring cereal either.
Although such a small cereal they make quite a filling and satisfying breakfast or light lunch too. I do think this is down to the milk as well as I find milk quite a bloater and filler.
Another favourite thing to do with rice krispies is make rice krispie cakes, a firm favourite with many children I'm sure and my twins love doing it already.
Mix rice krispies with melted chocolate, pop a dollop into a cake case and leave in the fridge to harden. This makes a crunchy, fun and extremely messy delight!
If you don't like soggy cereal then these definitely aren't one for you, I do however enjoy soggy cereal as it bores the hell out of me having to crunch my way through my food making it tedious and tiresome!
Summary: A lovely cereal

- 13/09/09 Thing is, 20g is nothing for a serving of these - I'd have to have twice that. |
