Advantages: Reasonable price, good taste, helped me lose a little weight.
Disadvantages: A little pricey when not on offer.
When I saw Kellogg's Special K on offer for £2.00 in my local Tesco store I picked up a 500g box and eagerly took it home to finally try this healthier cereal.
The Special K comes provided in a cardboard box adorned with the Kellogg's Logo, a picture of a bowl of cereal, health tips, nutritional information & ingredients and inside the box is a clear plastic bag containing the cereal itself.
The flakes of Special K are a fairly reasonable size and I poured out a generous portion and covered with semi-skimmed milk. After a couple of minutes of soaking in the milk I tried the flakes and was surprised that they were still relatively crunchy yet soft at the same time without being soggy and they have a very nice taste to them that's quite hard to describe. I can tell that the flakes have been toasted as they just have this delicious crunch to them that seems to be missed by some other cereals.
I find that Special K tastes best with semi-skimmed milk and when I swapped breakfast & lunch for a bowl of Special K each day for 2 weeks (as advertised on the box) and I did lose a couple of inches and a few pounds, it was the perfect boost I needed with my weight loss but I wouldn't want to do it for more than a couple of weeks as I missed my lunches and sugary cereals for breakfast!
There are 112 calories & 0.5g of fat per 30g serving and I believe this includes 125ml of skimmed milk so this really can be enjoyed regularly as part of a calorie controlled diet.
I will be purchasing this again and I would recommend this to anyone who wants a healthy breakfast or even just to lose a few pounds gradually without resorting to extreme dieting or diet pills.
I am rating Special K 4/5 as it's pretty nice and a fairly reasonable price (when not on offer it's £2.89 per 500g box).
Summary: A fairly tasty cereal which is low in fat.

- 01/07/09 So a member rated me SU on this review and messaged me to say it was a very good review? That makes no sense. Huh. |

- 01/07/09 I think it is useful information, yes. Firstly now you know roughly what the box looks like so you can find it on the shelf, you know that you get some extra health tips on the back of the box and you also know that the ingredients etc are listed. Not everything actually lists nutritional information so I think this IS useful to the consumer to possible help their purchase. |
