Advantages: a nice change from the usual chocolate bar
Disadvantages: Not very healthy
A little while a go I had a survey from lightspeed which asked me all about the snacks that I eat. It went on to ask me which flavour 'Squares' I would buy if I had the choice. It showed me many different flavours and this was one of the bars that I said I would buy if they released it. So if you like these then I like to think that I am one of the people responsible for them being on the shop shelves today and if you don't then.........I'm sorry!
The totally chocolatey square is made by Kelloggs and there are other flavours in the range although this is the newest. It consists of rice Krispies covered in chocolate, chocolate chunks on top with a further layer of chocolate sprawled over the top. You can buy them individually or in a pack of four and each bar contains 36g. They retail at £1.79 which I don't think is that bad at all.
I wouldn't have normally opted for something like this but I had a half price voucher through the door so by the time I used that, wrote this review and had some reads, they actually worked out to be free!
The bars are a very substantial size; around two inches thick and 8 to 10 inches long which is much bigger than any cereal bar you will find on the shelf.
When I opened it, I got a strong whiff of chocolate but I was disappointed because I realsied I didn't really think my purchase through. This actually looked as if it was a square chocolate crispy that you could make from Rice Krispies and chocolate. Oh well it didn't matter too much and I thought back to the fact that they didn't cost me a penny.
I was really shocked when I bit into it and chomped on a mouthful. It wasn't like a rice Krispie cake at all. It was really soft and literally melted in my mouth. I hardly had to make any chewing movements at all before the big chunk that I bit off turned to nothing. I have to state that this product did not dissolve like a Quaver does, it literally melted like an expensive piece of toffee or fudge. It was the most bizarre thing ever and my brain couldn't quite get it's head around it because it looked so course and even tasted harsh when I bit a piece off. Adding to all of this, it was rather chewy but not to the point where it ached the jaw, more of a soft and easy chew.
It had a distinctly 'chocolately' taste to it and the chunks on top added a bit of texture to the melting krispies. They weren't the nicest or high quality chocolate in the world but it didn't ruin the experience at all. The whole thing wasn't overly sweet but once I had finished the bar I didn't reach for another one (that's a first!).
I actually enjoyed this bar and felt that it was a nice change from a bar of chocolate. I would definitely buy them again and think the price is very good for what you get. I would only keep them as a treat though because contains 158 calories, 5g of fat and 13g of sugar. I know that's not the worst nutritional information in the world but I still wouldn't want to eat them as part of my daily intake.
If you want a change from your usual chocolate bar but like to stick to a chocolate based product then go for one of these. If you want to get away from the chocolate theme then why not try one of the other flavours.
Summary: These are really enjoyable!
