Wow, I cannot believe how unselfish I've become since becoming a member of Dooyoo. Today I am sharing my last Nutri-Grain Cappuccino bar with you lot, nice eh? Spurred on by the thought of another few pence in my account of course. I bought a box of 6 x 37 g bars for £1.29 last week in my search for low calorie snacks to take to work and stop me being tempted by the goodies in the shop. My curiosity overcame the not low enough 140kcal per bar aspect, but on the positive side the box says that they contain calcium. It also describes the bars as a soft golden baked crust made with wheat and a cappuccino & vanilla flavour filling. I can't wait; I've got to do the taste test first. It isn't easy having an opened bar of anything in front of you and drooling while you write an intro. Mmmmm that's better. Each bar is approximately 4 inches long and 1 inch wide with the outer biscuit twisted, a bit like a single sided bread plait. The biscuit colour is pale, not very golden and rather uninteresting except for the minute speckles of cocoa powder gracing the top where the twists are. The underside is flat and barren, a bit like my social life last weekend. There is a faint smell of coffee but that might be my cuppa rather than the bar. At first bite you find a softish pastry like biscuit that gets a high rating in my crumble and seek test because I only lost a bit. The now revealed inside is infinitely more interesting but frustrating. Side by side you see 2 piped or rolled in layers, one each of cappuccino and vanilla. The fillings go right along the inside of the bar, sufficient to get a good taste along with the biscuit but too small to wiggle your tongue in to taste the fillings separately from the biscuit. Your best bet is to nibble each side. Then I found that the cappuccino is a little strong tasting on it's own and the vanilla nice but reminds me of marshmallow. The overall taste is of coffee but with too man
y sugars for my liking. Bar completed I'm a little disappointed not to find many crumbs to lick off the coffee coloured foil wrapper that adorns each individual bar. My empty dark coffee coloured box looks smart with a picture of the bar with the end bitten off foremost. It looks very much like the biscuit but a little darker. Next to it you see a small silver cup and saucer filled with Cappuccino. Unrealistic because it’s smaller than the bar and would only fit in a dolls house if the comparative sizes were in proportion. The bar is bigger on the box than real life so I guess the images are meant to suggest that you get more for your money. My final impressions are that I quite liked Nutri-Grain Cappuccino twist bars but I doubt that I would buy them again because of the too sweet aftertaste. It’s good that Kellogs are looking for different products rather than a rehash of old products that we are seeing in the chocolate and sweet market in general. We are not told if there is any nut traces so I am assuming that there aren’t. For any enquiries you can call Kellogs care line free on: 0800 626066 (UK) 1800 626066 (ROI) Hope you enjoyed sharing my snack with me.
