Advantages: Tasty, great flavours
Disadvantages: Pricey
I've never really been a natural fan of breakfast cereals, I'm much more of a marmite and toast deep down. Recently though after the birth of my second baby the scales were not showing what I would like them to do and I decided that urgent action was required. I'd lost weight in the past by cutting bread out of my diet but to do this I needed to find a breakfast cereal that I would really enjoy and wouldn't leave me tempted by the toaster.
My mum had always been a big fan of Special K and while I thought it was ok, it wouldn't have been something I would have really eaten out of choice. Anyway my mum suggested I give the Special K Bliss Berry Crunch a try as she had treated herself to a box and thought it was delicious.
Well I found it easily enough with all the zillions of variations of Special K which all sounded pretty good but also all come with a pretty hefty price on them. It is expensive and I believe it comes in currently at £2.87 for a 375g box in my local Tesco's however on occasion I have seen it on offer in Sainsbury's for 2 for £4. It is certainly a lot of money and for me it is more of an occasional treat than a weekly buy.
Ok, once you get past the impact on your wallet you want to now if it lives up to expectations tastewise. From looking at the cereal before adding milk you can see your standad Special K flakes, cranberries and raspberries and small creamy colour clusters. It's colourful and visually appealing. I opt for semi-skimmed milk personally and I would recommend it's icy cold straight out the fridge for this one. It does taste fantastic, the flakes provide the substance of the cereal and then every now and then you stumble across one of the clusters which have a fantastic creamy, sweet vanilla taste. It could potentially be a little too sweet but then you find one of the sharper cranberries or raspberries which provide a fantastic contrast and just bring the whole thing together brilliantly. I thoroughly enjoyed every spoonful and the following morning I woke looking forward to breakfast.
