Advantages: Taste ok
Disadvantages: Not a very smoky BBQ taste, not as good as other Kettle Chip Flavours
I have to confess I seem to have an addiction to Kettle Chips at the moment. They are my favourite crisps and they seem to keep bringing out new flavours which I feel I just need to try and then write about! My latest purchase was the Honey Barbecue flavour which I had never noticed before.
For those of you who haven't had Kettle Chips before they vary from other crisps because they are hand cooked potato chips, made using the best potatoes, cooked in small batches and then seasoned. This of course does also make them a little more expensive than other crisps but in my mind well worth the extra. During the manufacturing process there is nothing artificial added, no MSG, no artificial flavourings or colouring allowing Kettle Chips to proudly claim on the front of their packets that they contain "absolutely nothing artificial."
I always buy the large 150g bags and the Honey and Barbecue flavour came in a orangey brown foil packet. The chips retail for around £1.59 but many supermarkets often have them on offer and I got mine in Tesco when they were only £1 a packet which gave me the excuse to stock up on a few. The chips were a golden colour and came in all shapes and sizes.
The ingredients are potatoes, sunflower oil and then the honey barbecue seasoning which contains lots of different ingredients including honey, tomato, red pepper, garlic, onion, malt vinegar, chilli powder and various herbs. The chips are suitable for vegetarians but those with allergies should note they do contain barley.
And now to the taste test. The chips have a quite unique flavour, you can taste the slight smokiness of the barbecue which contrasts nicely with the sweetness of the honey. It's quite a pleasant taste and my husband and I happily munched the crisps over two days. However we both agreed that we had expected a much stronger barbecue flavour and felt that this would have made it taste much better.
For those of you who like to consider the nutritional value of your crisps before buying them then here you are.

Personally I wouldn't rush out and buy these chips again. Of all the Kettle Chips flavours I have tried so far (and believe me that's been quite a few!) this is my least favourite. The crisps were not unpleasant in any way they were in fact quite nice and I enjoyed eating them. I just feel that the flavour wasn't as good as their other varieties and it just wasn't exciting enough for me to pay the money to buy them again. If you are trying Kettle Chips for the first time I would recommend you try one of the other flavours. The barbecue on these was certainly not smoking.
Summary: A kettle chip which is not as good as the other flavours in the range
