Advantages: Minimal and natural ingredients

Disadvantages: Expensive

I'm normally not a fan of 'plain' or ready salted crisps - generally preferring to opt for the weird and wonderful flavours that our little blue-and-green planet has to offer. However, 'Kettle Chips Lightly Salted' are a tasty snack in their own right, and have the rare benefit in the crisp-world of using all natural ingredients.

Although no crisps can be described as 'healthy', Kettle Chips are arguably better for you than most, as they don't use artificial flavours or colours, monosodium glutomate, or hydrodgenated fat.

Price & Availability

You can currently purchase a 225g bag of Lightly Salted Kettle Chips for £2 from Tesco, which is a little pricey when you consider the fact that a similar sized bag of Doritos comes to around 50p less.

Ingredients
- - - - - - - -
Where these particular crisps excel, is in their limited ingredient list which consists of; Select potatoes, sunflower oil, and sea salt.
Kettle Chips say that the potatoes they use are "the best potatoes we can find", which, I suppose, is a reassuring claim.

Flavour
- - - - -
Each of the hand cooked crisps is incredibly crunchy, and feels slightly thicker than the common-or-garden Walkers brand. The taste is delicious, and what I appreciate most of all, is the fact that the use of salt is at a minimum - especially when compared to other crisps that I have tried in the past. This allows the eater to appreciate the delicate taste of the potato, rather than just getting a mouth full of salt.

Final Word

Although a little expensive, you really get what you pay for with the Kettle Chips Lightly Salted variety. Their crunchy nature is complemented by a delicate flavour which makes putting the bag down a difficult thing to do - recommended.

Summary: All natural crisps

Of course you can describe crisps as healthy...you'll just be wrong, that's all.

You can't beat Kettle Chips! I like their seasonal flavours - last Christmas it was plum and camembert. Like, yum! :)
