Advantages: Taste divine.
Disadvantages: Too little in the pack, and a bit higher priced.
I still cant believe that it has taken me 23 years to discover that there is such a thing as the perfect chip!
I am still feeling a little depressed that I have wasted so many years eating Walkers (no offense all you Walker lovers) when there was such a culinary experience waiting to be discovered.
Well it all happened two weeks ago when I was in London for the annual book fair. Driving over from Ireland is quite a ways, and so we stopped by Tesco in Holyhead to pick up some snacks for the road. My partner grabbed a bag of these as they were on offer for a pound, instead of the usual 1.59 pounds. And so I got my first and hopefully not my last taste of Kettle Chips.
First off the appearance of the bag is excellent the quality is good, not a cheap flimsy aluminum but a thick durable packet.
The coloring is perfect and looks clean and sophisticated, with simple text, and a blue theme.
But what is really the icing on the cake is that there are no preservatives or MSG in these chips, so expect good old-fashioned goodness!
My first experience was opening the bag, and just smelling the tangy, salty smell of balsamic vinigar and sea salt was heaven, it may sound a bit pretentious but trust me the balsamic vinigar really hits the spot, like malt just doesn't.
The texture was quite a bit more hard then most chips which will easily break apart, these chips are the real deal so they are crispier and some may find them a bit too hard (if you are used to Pringles for example).
However I found these crisps to be just about perfect and my only gripe is that the largest bag they come in is 150 grams, which just isn't enough for two people, at least not me and my partner.
As for price and the effects to your derriere well lets just say that they are a bit "big" in both those categories. I wont gripe about paying more for better taste and quality, but some may find it hard to pay 1.59 pounds for crisps which often cost much less.
Here is the nutritional info for 100 grams:
Energy - 476Kcal

Carbohydrate - 56.8g

Fat - 25g (of which saturates 2.6g)

Salt - 1.9g
So that about sums it up, I would highly recommend these chips as a delicious snack, that although high in fat is low in the baddies (preservatives, msg).
Summary: My new favorite chip!
