Well whilst reading some childhood favourites that I am going to eagerly review soon, I decided that I was a little peckish and that the time wasn't quite right to start making tea (I aren't that hungry, I am busy reading and the other half is in another room playing on the computer.)

Look

As I wandered around the kitchen, opening various cupboards looking for a quick snack that I can munch while reading a book I come across…Kinder bueno, the white and orange wrapper proclaiming 2 bars of hazelnut and milk in a with chocolate…on closer inspection the graphics seem to be quite accurate, the picture of a half eaten bueno looks tasty and there is two bars inside, I know from experience that they are individually wrapped so I can leave one for later (yeah right!)

Each bar is separated into four pieces so you can share (me?) with friends or keep it all to yourself (sounds more like it!)

The milk chocolate, lined with dark chocolate encases a wafer bottom with hazelnut filling. The hazelnut is almost a paste and when eaten in a chunk the snack is satisfactory.
The hazelnut is light in colour as opposed to hazelnuts spreads that are so readily available at the moment.

The wrapper states 'milk and hazelnuts,' and 'Milk chocolate covered wafer with smooth milky hazelnut filling.' I would say that is about right myself. I also find that this is a 43g pack.

Smell

To be honest these don't really smell like anything at all…slightly nutty perhaps with a tinge of chocolate. I think Galaxy smells much sweeter than this.

Taste

As I say, bueno is not like snacks of a similar kind. It is not whole chocolate, it does not have a soft, cake like centre. The filling is not too sweet, nor is it off putting.

The chocolate is not too sweet, nor is it bitter like a cooking chocolate would be. It is fairly smooth and tastes similar, though a bit more grown up than the darker chocolate on a Kinder egg.

The hazelnut spread is smooth and slightly milky. This spread isn't like the Nutella that can be spread on toast but a milky taste accompanies the hazelnut.

The wafer is crisp and tastes like a typical wafer does, more or less like the ones in a KitKat or that you would have with ice cream.

My preferred method of eating is to break off a chunk of chocolate. I then bite off the half chocolate covered wafer base and use my tongue to scoop out the smooth hazelnut before eating the shell, much more tasty and you can experience all of the different flavours separately.

Opinion

I like these as a snack and find them a nice alternative to a biscuit. I find that they are best not refrigerated as the flavours don't come through as much when they are cold.
These are handy to travel with (as long as you don't keep them in a warm place) and an ideal sized snack for youngsters and those that are not quite so young anymore.

This is a winner for me although the calories (I don't usually read these) are quite high so bet to save them as a treat rather than a habit, because believe me, these can be addictive. The only problem I have is that there just doesn't seem to be enough in the one packet. Perhaps a four fingered bueno like the four fingered Kit Kat would be a nice suggestion for Kinder…

Buenos quickly became my favourite some time back and I find that I usually have them at my Mam's house as she is always buying things that she knows that I like in her attempt to make sure she can keep feeding me despite not living with her anymore. She started buying these and I wasn't sure if I would like them, although liking the legendry Kinder egg, the Hippo and bars of similar treat were rather vile in my own humble opinion. I didn't like the soft bases to them and wasn't keen to tell my Mam thanks but no thanks…So I sat down with the Kinder bueno and thoroughly enjoyed it.

For those that want to know/have allergies/like to see a list/generally want to be nosey…

Ingredients:
Milk chocolate 31.5% (sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, skimmed milk powder, concentratedbutter, emulsifier: soy lecithin;vanillin),
Sugar,
Vegetable oil,
Hazelnuts (10.8%)
Total milk solids 19.5%
Not a very nice list that is it, , although don't know what they are it doesn't sound particularly good for you does it? To be honest though I am quite glad to see no E numbers, they have probably out the scientific name and fooled me grr.

Energy per bar 505Kj 121kcal
Protein 2.1
Carbohydrate 10
Fat 8.1
Also small traces of daily allowances when you eat 100g.

So although that bit was pretty grim I do still like these but I think I will return the second one that was waiting to be eaten to the cupboard. However if I eat it, I will give myself some of the RDA won't I. It might be worth it after all…

The address is Awberry Court, Watford, WD18 8PA, UK and these are distributed by Ferrero UK Ltd.

These are quite good value for money and they tend to be around 35p for a bar, depending on where you are and about £1.60 for a packet, although my Mam usually buys the packets and she only buys them when there is one free, which is fairly often and gives good value for money over buying individual bars.

Summary: lovely tastig chocolate that leaves you wanting more
