Advantages: Quality chocolate...good taste. Loved by the kids

Disadvantages: Not enough portion!

As a child, I always liked eating chocolate and sometimes used to substitute a tasty chocolate bar for a whole meal! It may sound very unhealthy, but this habit has carried on with me so that even now, I can happily swap my sandwich with a DECENT chocolate bar for lunch!

Not all chocolates are edible and taste like chocolate. Some brands are total torture and taste like soap or simply wax, while the good quality ones have the right smell, texture and taste. I mostly prefer smooth, thick and chunky darkish chocolate pieces like a Yorkie bar, but sometimes I go entirely with the opposite and eat white chocolate!

One of the best chocolates I have ever eaten (and in fact am still eating) is Kinder Chocolate. And it is one of the best chocolates in the market; I have eaten so many different varieties, but no one does MILKY chocolates like Kinder.

== Kinder ==

Kinder is a German word meaning children. Although the name is German, this confectionery is manufactured by the famous Italian company Ferrero, which always produces the most elegant and luxurious chocolate around the world.

Kinder has a wide range of chocolate; most of them are based on milk chocolate covering a rich milky filling. We can find many varieties of Kinder but all share the same "theory" of milk contents (chocolate from outside and milk from inside).
Who hasn't ever tried Kinder Surprise, Kinder Maxi and indulging Kinder Bueno? In this review I'm going to talk about the original chocolate they produced: "Kinder Chocolate"

I have been eating this chocolate ever since I was a little child; surprisingly, and unlike other brands which have now disappeared years later, this one carried on successfully and has been eaten by many generations.

== Firstly . . . haven't you wondered about the chocolate boy pictured on the box? Well I always did! ==

I always wondered about this gorgeous boy with his dazzling white smile and his beautiful blue eyes. The packaging had never changed from 1973 until very recently when they have changed it slightly. This boy never aged for the whole 36 years (lucky him)! At the beginning I thought it might be just a made up or printed picture, and that this boy never existed (he was so perfect) but it turns out that this 10 year old boy was for real. He is now a grown up 46 year old German guy and his name is Guenter Euringer!

This boy with an angelic face was, and still is the face of kinder chocolate. Guess what? He was paid 300 Deutschmarks (equivalent to 150 Euros or £100) at that time, for the famous advertisement!

== Kinder Chocolate had their famous slogan . . . MORE MILK . . . LESS COCOA ==

== Packaging ==

This chocolate comes as thin long fingers in a soft squared and basic cardboard box with an opening from the side. It comes in either a pack of 4, 8 or 16 pieces. It can also come in a bigger bar known as Kinder Maxi which is chunkier but which has the same taste.

To keep these chocolate bars at their best freshness and taste, each bar is wrapped individually in foil which is silver on the inside and the normal orange on the outside, and marked with the 'Kinder' logo on every one of them. The back of the pack contains a lot of useful nutritional information, ingredients and weight; and many more interesting facts.

== Appearance ==

Not too much is going on! Five tiny rectangular shapes can be seen on each of the pieces in the pack (which can be broken up into smaller chocolate pieces) with a small crown on each one, laid over that very flat and thin chocolate finger. It looks very disappointing really as there is so little there. It never satisfied me when I was a kid to eat just one 'finger' and never does as a 'grown-up' even when I eat the whole box of four.

== What You Get ==

The outer layer is seen first, which is the very milky milk chocolate: a glossy and very light brown chocolate which indicates that it has more milk than cocoa.

Having the first "tiny" bite you see the inside layer. It is not as brilliant as it shows in the picture. The white layer is an ivory or off-white rich and thick milky filling, which becomes thicker when biting through the top. Altogether, the chocolate looks tempting and very appealing.

== Aroma ==

I love the smell; it always takes me to back to my childhood! I can instantly detect the chocolaty and milky vanilla smell; it smells a lot like hot chocolate actually. The chocolaty aroma dominates the whole bar. Also it has sort of buttery or creamy smell, which is very pleasant.

== The best part . . . The taste. ==

I have to admit that the taste has changed slightly over the years and so, too, my liking for it, but Kinder have still managed to stay at the top of my chocolate list by keeping and maintaining a great taste and look for the past few years and hopefully for many more years to come.

Kinder has perfectly balanced the cocoa in the mix, not too strong at all; in fact, you can taste the milk more than the chocolate, which can be good for younger children. Also it has the right taste of sugar, not too sickly sweet; you can taste a hint of sweetness . . . again that can be very appealing for the children.

The brown chocolate melts instantly in the mouth; the luxuriously smooth and silky chocolate envelops a creamy, rich and thick, light and fluffy milky core, which is not solid or tough; it is still soft enough to dissolve easily.

This soft milky filling is whipped lightly so it is not thick or dense (on the contrary!); it's my favourite part. I used to eat the outside coating and leave the white stuff until the end to enjoy (. . . well, I still sometimes do the same when I'm alone!) - it's the best way to enjoy it!
I can taste the sugar more in this milky core maybe because there is less cocoa, which would give the stronger taste, but I still adore the taste even with that little extra touch of sweetness.

== Overall opinion ==

This classic chocolate was and still is eaten by me and I have taught my niece and nephew to eat it too; the taste and the quality were always ranked high. According to my long experience of eating this chocolate, I have found it one of the most flavoursome milk chocolates I have come across in my lifetime, but I have to say that I believe it tasted a bit different before. I like to have it as a snack and give it to younger children because of its lightness because it's full of calcium and vitamins - but it can be messy, as it can melt it the hands very fast!

== It is good for the children . . . (and grownups too!) ==

* It's loaded in milk and enriched with vitamins, calcium, protein and some necessary nutrition elements for the kids.

* Great taste and the children will love the sweet mouth watering soft chocolate with fluffy center.

* It's all chocolate (which I really like)! Children won't get irritated by dry or tough pieces of biscuits or wafer inside.

* Good source of energy for the kids, and can be given during playtime and as a snack.

* Can be fitted into the smallest lunchbox (although not if the school bans chocolate)!

== What I don't like about it . . . ==

* The chocolate coverage isn't enough in my opinion; maybe because they are concentrating on the milk more than the chocolate. If we look into their other range we will find that all their chocolates are very thinly spread, even their famous Kinder Surprise! I think if it was thicker, it would be more enjoyable.

* Too much calories for such a small finger bar (nearly 70 calories for one) which can be replaced with a good sized apple with the same calorie count . . . but hey . . . IT'S CHOCOLATE that I'm taking about!

* The price is a bit too much for such a small box of chocolate; it's been always highly priced, because we are paying for a quality product, but it is expensive for a children's treat (Always look for special offers in supermarkets).

* Again, it is a very small portion; you can easily consume a pack of four chocolate fingers (for a whopping 280 calories!) and still want more!

* Because it's soft and sweet it can stick in your throat and then it makes you thirsty.

== Don't consume it if you are . . . ==

* Lactose intolerant, you can't come near this chocolate because it contains milk and milk products.

* It's not suitable if you have diabetics because of the amount of sugar used.

* It doesn't have nuts but there is a warning of a nut allergy on the pack.

* It has a good deal of fat, 4.3 g in a tiny 12.5g bar! So if you are a calorie watcher, on a certain diet or suffering from high Cholesterol eat this stuff with care!

== Prices and availability ==

This universal chocolate is available all over the globe therefore you can find it nearly in every country and available in most shops and supermarkets. The packaging may vary slightly from one place to another but it still has the same great taste and quality.

As for the price, it's different from one place to another, with larger packs offering better value. For UK customers, I'm talking in British sterling: for the pack of four it costs 0.95p; the pack of 8 costs £ 1.21; and finally the pack of 16 costs £1.43 (but I did find it at Tesco with special Easter prices, so look out for special bargains!

== Conclusions . . . ==

It's a nice tasty chocolate abounding with some good nutrition, calcium and vitamins for a healthy growth using the best ingredients - BUT bear in mind that it can't replace milk and its natural goodness. Like all chocolates, it should only be given in moderation, considering the amount of sugar and fat it contains.
It was and still is, a kiddie chocolate consumed by millions in the world with the same old traditional taste . . .
