Advantages: Taste!

Disadvantages: No adult sizes, too much packaging

Forget the messing around with adding stuff like wafer, biscuit, and freaky hippo-shaped confectionery - the simple Kinder bars are the best.

I absolutely love these, first tasting one as a kid in Germany. They didn't sell them here at the time (that I could find), and I was young enough not to be scared by the terrible photos of scary children on the front - either that or it's going to haunt me later on in life...

Kinder bars taste like the eggs, but with more creamy white chocolate filling. Covered with milk chocolate, they are very small in size (being designed for children and all that) with mini squares. The chocolate is very creamy and the two flavours work well together.

Each bar comes wrapped in a semi-opaque layer of orange and white plastic, with another layer underneath to protect the chocolate. Then the bars are put into a cardboard box - not great for the environment it has to be said. You can however get them in packs of 10, but that's not much different packaging-wise when they are all individually wrapped.

In my opinion, these bars are the nicest of the Kinder products. I'm not sure why this is - maybe because the chocolate is thicker. They are also very sweet, so may not appeal to everyone. They can still be a bit difficult to get hold of, but are generally available from larger supermarkets and also duty free at the airport. Occasionally I've also seen them at cheapy discount shops.

If you haven't tried them but think Kinder eggs are ok, these bars are definitely worth a try and though I don't eat them that much, they are one of my favourite kinds of chocolate!

Personally I think they should make them in bigger adult sizes, or maybe even family sized slabs which would cut down on the unnecessary packaging. An adult version could also be redesigned without the scary kid on the box - maybe something more generic?!

As they are chocolate bars, they obviously aren't the healthiest choice, but I guess this is the one advantage of them being so small!

Summary: Worth trying if you like the eggs
