Advantages: tasty, crunchy & creamy
Disadvantages: 117 kcal per portion
Everytime I visit the supermarket, I'm always on the look out for a snack that can add variety to my son's lunchbox. Something that he would enjoy while having his packed lunch in school. I found this kinder happy hippo in a colourful cardboard pack described as " Now Crispier Than Ever" and you can see the 5 individually wrap shaped like hippo. They are very appealing especially with the children. At first I'm quite hesitant because it appears to be one of those unhealthy sweet snacks, so i read the pack and found out that it has no artificial colours, no preservatives and no hydrogenated fats. I pursuaded myself to get one and I thought that it would be a good idea to add one of those cute little hippo in my son's packed lunch. Just for a little treat !
BACKGROUND
Happy Hippo is one of the product of Kinder. For me, It's interesting to know where all these lovely sweets originally started. Found out that it originally comes from Germany. Kinder is the German word for children. A confectionery product of the Italian chocolate manufacturer Ferrero. It was introduced to the German market in 1967 and known in Germany as Kinderschokolade. In 1968, It was then introduced to Ferrero's country of origin, Italy. The following 10 years, Kinderschokolade was successfully marketed in the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe and later across 4 continents. Imagine those lovely sweets has been around the world for so many years, then the Happy Hippo characters were created in 1987, by the French designer André Roche for Ferrero chocolates. Out of curiosity, I done some research and found this interesting information from wikipedia. I thought it would be helpful to share it with you because I believe Kinder created an impressive range of delicious small chocolate items and one of them is "happy hippo" which are highly satisfying not only for kids but for grown up as well.

HAPPY HIPPO
The experience was quite enjoyable for me and my son , we both have a sweet tooth and love munching them together , we did finish the pack of 5 cute hippos, in just one go. Not bad for the first try!!! It is quite messy because those little white tidbits keep on falling off, but it's still yummy. As usual we have to limit our intake since each one contains of 117 calories, so now we tried to have one or two, just to satisfy ourselves.
This lovely treat is made of milk and hazelnut, the crunchiness works well with the soft and creamy inner filling. On the inside there are 2 layers, one is the dark hazelnut creamy filling and the other one is the lighter whipped milky cream. A real tasty snack when you are craving for sweets, and remember to always store them in a cool dry place.
As for me, I usually buy at pound shop, it's much cheaper so i tried to grab more and stock up but it never last long. Definitely someone is sneaking around and enjoy the cute little hippos as well, so I better go now and find out whose the culprit!
Thank you for reading ;-D
