Advantages: Cheap, tasty, scrummy, yummy and mine!

Disadvantages: The fingers could be another six inches longer.

I sometimes wish I didn't have such a literal imagination, it's hard to think of KitKats without thinking I am going to eat a chocolate covered pussy cat! (I know, weird!) However...I love KitKats and I thought I would give the plain version a try. I much prefer dark or bitter chocolate to milk chocolate, so these sounded ideal to me.

The wrapper is much the same with the easily recognisable KitKat logo covering most of the front. The two wafers are wrapped in tin foil which keeps them nice and crisp. Slide your thumbnail along the middle, snap it in half and you're ready to go. The trouble is that it's hard to eat just one of the fingers. Of course if you are polite (like me!) you will offer the other finger to someone to share. Also, if you are greedy (like me) you will hope that they are full up or have developed an aversion to tin foil or something! Usually they take it with little thought for my generosity and sacrifice. (rolls eyes piteously to Heaven. Ah well!)

The plain bar is just as crispy and tempting as the milk chocolate one but for me, the hint of bitterness in the dark chocolate makes the fingers that bit more enjoyable. Nestles is not the best chocolate, it can sometimes feel a bit coarse and grainy on the tongue, but the combination of chocolate and wafer bar is a winner.

As with the milk chocolate KitKat the wafers are always generously covered with chocolate. For some reason I usually bite the ends off first then eat the rest. One of my children used to try to bite all the chocolate off without damaging the wafer bar. He gave that delaying tactic up when the dog got fed up with the suspense one day and 'helped' him eat the bar.
The funny thing for me is that everybody thinks that their way of eating a KitKat is the only way to do it properly!

Coming in at 53 calories a finger it's a good way to have a snack and not pile on weight.

They usually cost around £1.40 for a pack of six two finger KitKats. I have seen them for under a pound sometimes in Asda. So they are not an expensive treat.

The one I am eating now has a best before date eight months away, so they have a good shelf life. (Not that they would need it in our household!)

I was going to list the ingredients but the writing on the label is too small for me to read, so that has saved you reading a boring bit!

I finished my bar about two paragraphs ago and there is still the sweet taste lingering in my mouth. Unfortunately it was the last one in the packet!

To finish, KitKat is responsible for my favourite ever advert where a man is patiently trying to photograph pandas. He turns to sit down and "Have a break, have a KitKat!" and the previously hidden pandas start skating and performing tricks behind his back. I loved that advert, do you remember it too?

Summary: A classic tasty snack from Nestles.
