I am not really a chocolate fan, with one major exception. I am addicted to Kit Kat! There is something about those fingers of thick chocolate and crunchy chocolate filled wafers that I just can’t resist.

The eye catching but rather boring red and white wrapper has been around since I was a child. In fact Kit Kat has been around since 1935. Launched by Rowntree (now Nestle Rowntree) Kit Kat started life as chocolate crisp. It was renamed 2 –years later as chocolate crisp Kit Kat. The name Kit Kat was taken from the famous 18th century Kit Kat political club.

During the war Rowntree’s advertising campaign claimed that chocolate crisp was what active people needed and I certainly need my regular fix of kit Kat! In 1945 Kit Kat appeared with a blue wrapper when it had to be made covered in plain chocolate due to a post war milk shortage. However it changed back to its red wrapper and milk chocolate covering a few years later.

In 2004 39,000 tonnes of kit Kat were sold worldwide and sales topped £170 million! In fact a years production of Kit Kat would stretch around the London underground 350 times! Kit Kat is the U.K’s best selling sweet brand .

Kit Kat is manufactured in 13 countries in some interesting guises. In Japan there is a green tea version or if you don’t fancy that how about a grape flavoured one? In the US it is possible to buy Kit Kat with extra creamy chocolate-well it would be wouldn’t it? In Australia You can buy a strawberry flavoured version.

In the U.K Kit Kat is available in several different versions including orange flavoured, plain chocolate and mint chocolate. There is now Kit Kat chunky and a revolting version with peanuts! However for me it has to be Kit Kat original.

Kit Kat original comes in either a 2 or 4 finger packs. I always go for the 4-finger pack. Open the silver foil to reveal 4 fingers of milk chocolate covered wafers. The fingers are made so they can be easily be broken into individual fingers. Bite into the chocolate to bite into the 3 layers of chocolate crème filled wafer. In my view Kit Kat is a taste of heaven! All this can be your for around 30p for 4 fingers, what a bargain! Kit Kat is widely available.

Summary: Thick chocolate with chocolate wafer.
