Advantages: Nestle Chocolate

Disadvantages: None

Have a break, have a Kit Kat.

So, it's Friday afternoon and I had a chocolate craving and the first thing I saw was a lovely 4 stick Kit Kat Dark bar!! Maybe it was the bright red packaging that drew my eye to it or maybe it was the fact that there are 4 sticks and all for only 233 calories but needless to say, the chocolate bar did not last long. Also, it is a lovely dark chocolate instead of the original milk chocolate and I felt like a bit of a change.

Like I said, Kit Kat's come in a bright red packet that is now made out of foil so it is guaranteed to be fresh when you open it. It even says on the packet that the foil fresh wrapping is for extra crispiness. The chocolate itself is made up of what can be described as fingers, with three layers of crème-filled wafer and then all of that is covered with a layer of chocolate.

There are various ways I think in which people eat a Kit Kat, much like there are different ways to eat a Cadbury's Cream Egg. I tend to nibble the ends of as the chocolate seems to be a bit thicker at the ends then it is on top. I also nibble around the sides of the fingers as this chocolate is also thicker than the top. Then some people will break the Kit Kat in half which was made popular but the tv commercials showing people breaking it with the phrase, "Have a Break, have a Kit Kat!" I find the chocolate to be of a very high quality, like all Nestle chocolate actually and the wafer is always very crispy and fresh. The layers of crème are not too thick but enough to give the bar a bit of texture and flavour. They do not really have a flavour, they just taste like crème but have a nice taste to them. Kit Kat's do actually come in different flavours now such as Orange, Original milk chocolate, mint and White Chocolate!

Each stick is approximately 12 cm long and 1cm wide. The sticks are joined together by chocolate but it is very easy to break apart the different sticks to share with others (though why you would share chocolate with others I don't know!!)

Kit Kat's are now produced by Nestle but when they first came out they were developed by Rowntree as far back as 1935! The idea apparently came about when an employee at the Rowntree's factory suggested they should come up with a snack that "a man could have in his lunch box for work."

Apparently, according to a website I visited, "the name is believed to have come from the Kit-Cat Club, an 18th century Whig literary club founded in the reign of James II and located at Christopher Catling ("Kit Cat")'s pie-house in Shire Lane, by Temple Bar.

Like I said, a four stick bar has only 233 calories. It's a little bit more than another type of chocolate bar but it's also bigger than say a Mars etc so it is worth it. So, if you're looking for a tasty treat this afternoon look no further than a Kit Kat!!
