Overview
Kit Kat are famous for their 'Take a Break' catchphrase and have been around for years. The original four-finger version milk chocolate kit kat was launched in September 1935 after a worker at the Rowntree's factory in York put a suggestion in the suggestion box for a snack that a 'man could have in his lunch box for work', it was called Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp. The two-finger version was launched May 1936. Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp was renamed Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp in 1937, and after WWII it was named just Kit Kat. It is believed that the name originates from the Kit-Cat Club, an 18th century Whig literary club founded in the reign of James II and located at Christopher Catling ("Kit Cat")'s pie-house in Shire Lane, by Temple Bar. The Kit Kat dark is one of many variations of the milk chocolate kit kat and I am unsure when it was launched.
What does a Dark Kit Kat look like?
The four stick kit kat is around 12cm by 4cm, each stick is 12cm x 1cm and about 1cm thick. Each stick of kit kat is joined by a thin piece of chocolate which makes it easy to snap/break the sticks apart. Each stick of kit kat has layers of wafer and crème in the middle which is coated in a layer of dark chocolate with the words Kit Kat embossed on the top of each stick.
What is a Dark Kit Kat made of?
The ingredients of Dark Kit Kat are: Dark Chocolate (66%) (Sugar, Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Butterfat Emulsifier, (Soya Lecithin)), Wheat Flour, Sugar, Vegetable Fat, Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Dried Skimmed Milk, Yeast, Raising Agent (Sodium Bicarbonate), Lactose, Calcium Sulphate, Butterfat, Salt, Emulsifiers (Soya Lecithin, E476), Flavouring.

Packaging
Four stick dark chocolate kit kats come in a dark brown foil wrapper the front has a red and white oval with the words Kit Kat in red and the Nestle logo on the edge. The word 'dark' is written on the front in brown with white highlighting. The calories per bar (236) and the percentage of GDA (12%) are also on the front to the bottom right hand corner. The edges of the wrapper are gold and say Have a break. Have a Kit Kat (the logo) Dark. On the back is a box that states 'Voted Product of the Year 2008' there is a barode, ingredients and nutritional information, the Nestle logo and contact details. The pack looks really luxurious and makes me feel like the Kit Kat is a perfect treat and I can't wait to unwrap it. The packet has a tear here section and opens really smoothly and neatly with a red plastic ribbon which adds to the luxuriousness as you don't have to rip the packet open.
Taste
Dark Chocolate is my favourite type of chocolate so I had high expectations of the Dark Kit Kat and I'm glad to say it definitely delivered. I find that most popular brand everyday chocolate bars that contain dark chocolate taste quite bland and cheap as the cocoa content of the chocolate is low. I'm not sure of the cocoa content of Dark Kit Kats but the chocolate doesn't taste cheap, when you let the chocolate melt on your tongue it has a nice rich deep taste to it. And then when you bite into the Kit Kat stick you get a lovely crunch from the wafer which is always crispy, the wafer taste fresh and creamy at the same time due to the crème layer. I like to open the foil wrapper using the ribbon then break one stick of at a time. I like to take little bites of around 2cm each so that the stick lasts for around 6 bites, the longer the better. The chocolate is a little thicker at each end which is really tasty. When you bite down through the chocolate, wafer and crème all at once you get a lovely rich flavour from the chocolate combined with a biscuity creamy taste from the wafer. The taste sensation is absolutely delicious and the Dark Kit Kat is one of my favourite snacks.
Price
A four stick kit kat costs around 45p from most supermarkets, it is also available in two sticks in multipacks but I prefer the four stick Kit Kat is it is more filling and more of a snack. Kit Kats are also available in lots of variations such as mint and chocolate and also Kit Kat Chunky in lots of different flavours.
My Opinion
Dark Kit Kats are a delicious snack they seem like a slightly grown up snack. The taste of the Kit Kat is not like any other snack I have had and I find them quite irresistible at times. Therefore I only allow myself to buy them on the odd occasion. But I do convince myself because dark chocolate is better for you than milk chocolate that it really doesn't matter. The Dark Kit Kat is luxurious from the wrapper to the chocolate inside and my mouth is watering just thinking about them. If you love dark chocolate and have not tried a Dark Kit Kat I very much recommend that you do!
Summary: A high quality and very tasty dark chocolate treat!
