Advantages: Tastes great
Disadvantages: High fat content
Feeling peckish the other day, I decided to treat myself to a bar of kit kat senses and found myself really enjoying it. Everyone is familiar with the standard chocolate wafer kit kat fingers, but recently they have been branching out and increasing their product range, with the kit kat senses having been launched in April 2008.
When it was first launched, there was a massive advertising campaign that featured the girls from Girls Aloud walking down a red carpet and Sarah Harding unwrapping a bar and taking a bite. With this campaign and the constant bombarment of the fact it only has 165 calories, I think this chocolate is aimed at health-conscious women, but in my opinion, I think this is a nice treat that everyone would enjoy it.
The packaging:
The packaging of the bar is the trademark red colour with the red and white kit kat logo emblazoned on the front. The word senses is written in gold making this product seem more indulgent than the normal bar. There is also a picture of some hazelnuts and what the inside of the bar looks like. On the back, there is a list of what it contains written in numerous languages and a best before date section. As the filling for this bar is hazelnut flavoured, hazelnuts, peanuts and 'other nuts' are included and thus this bar would not be suitable for those with a nut allergy.
The taste:
This chocolate bar is separated into five small segments that are connected with some smooth milk chocolate wafer. In this way, the appearance reminds me of kinder bueno bars. When you bite into a section, you can see that the base is that of a normal kit kat wafer. However, the topping is deliciously creamy with a hazelnut flavoured truffle like texture. This is what differentiates it from normal kit kats and makes the chocolate seem a lot more indulgent. The whole bar is then enveloped in a thin layer of milk chocolate. With the smoothness of the topping contrasting with the crunchiness of the wafer, this makes for a great taste experience and I would give kit kat senses five stars for taste.
Nutritional information:
This product has been marketed heavily as 'only' having 165 calories. Though this may not be much compared to some other chocolates, I still think this is quite a lot for a somewhat small snack. Also, with 9.5g of fat (4.5g of which saturates), this is definately not as healthy as it may first appear to be.
Overall, I think this tastes great and I would recommend getting it as an indulgent treat. However, it's high fat consumption makes this quite unhealthy and for this reason, I wouldn't recommend eating it very often. Its unhealthy nature means I will only be giving this product four stars though it does taste fantastic!!
Summary: A delicious chocolate which is great as an occasional treat!!
