I bought a pack of Knorr Stock Pots from Tesco because they were on buy one get one free. That meant that I got 16 of these for £1.44 which looked like a good deal. Each one in a plastic pot filled with concentrated beef stock and you simply add 500 mils of water to get your stock. I must admit that I didn't read the outside labelling before I used one of these to flavour a beef stew. The smell was not at all like beef stew; it was just kind of spicy, peppery and greasy. The secret to a good soup is starting with a good quality stock for the base. I make my own chicken stock by boiling down chicken bones with water and it makes an exceptionally tasty soup but when I make my lentil soup only knorr ham cubes will do. I had spotted the knorr stock pots on the shelves of the supermarkets several times and wondered if they were any good but the price of around £2 for a box of eight potions put me off. Luckily one day they were on half price offer so I chucked them into my trolley.
