Advantages: taste, low cal and fat

Disadvantages: none really

Having had a craving for cheese over the weekend but not really fancying the block variety I decided to try and find a low calorie, low fat alternative to satisfy my cravings and ended up buying some Kraft Light Philadelphia.

Contained in a 300g family pack tub, on offer at the moment for £1.00 the grey and light blue packaging is simply designed. The adult GDA information is printed on the lid and tells us that a 30g serving contains:

47 cals
1.2g sugar
3.5g fat
2.3g saturates
0.3g salt

So not a bad choice at all really, and certainly less fat than reglar block cheese.

Taking off the lid and peeling back the silver protective foil you are met with what looks like margarine, a light yellow colour greets you and a slight "cheesy" smell, nothing overpowering but still nice all the same.

As a spreadable soft cheese you would expect it to spread easy and evenly and this is the case, even from the fridge its consistency allows for an even layer on crackers or bread so all thats left is to taste to see if it is cheesy enough to satisfy the craving.

Light, creamy and indeed cheesy is how I would describe the taste, not too strong so you feel overwhelmed but just enough flavour and texture to give the hit thats needed. Ideal for on crackers for a light lunch, meaning you can save valuable calories for a later more indulgant treat.

The Packaging doesnt indicate why this is light compared to original Philapdelphia so I cant report what the difference is, however the ingredients are listed as being: Medium Fat soft cheese, with stabilisers, Locust bean gum, citric acid and flavouring; so not exactly much information to work with there...

Allergy sufferers be aware that the product contains Milk, and dairy intolerant people will know not to touch anyway.

A website is listed on the bottom of the pack for more information about the product and how it can fit into a healthy lifestyle: www.krafthealthyliving.co.uk

So, in conclusion a nice creamy cheese fix that isnt that bad for you, makes a lovely light lunch and can be eaten without feeling that guilty.
I cant say it blew me away, but for what it is it was very nice.

3/5 middle of the road fare.
