I have been trying to write a few reviews on products from some of the "cheaper" supermarkets recently, mainly because said supermarkets seem to get quite a hard time of it by many. I would say that on the whole the products are very good, (in my experience at least) with of course a few exceptions, but they are generally worth a bash! :-D

I recently bought a small bag of "Mister Choc" mini jaffa cake-type biscuits from my Local Lidl store. They were only 69 pence, but I find that the price of this product fluctuates a little from time to time, so they may well be a different price the next time I'm there!

The packaging isn't altogether that attractive to be honest, but I never let such things put me off from buying a product; I guess I'm more concerned with what's inside the packaging! The outside of the packet clearly states that the contents are 125g - and the name of the product is written in bold writing across the top of the packet. Underneath the writing there is a picture of a few of the jaffa cake minis, and there appears to be a bite out of one, presumably so that we can see the orangey bit in the centre!? The packaging really doesn't allow there to be any confusion whatsoever about what the contents are!

Upon opening the bag I noticed that the scent wafting from the top of the opening was delicious, like any other jaffa cake-type scent that I have grown to love over the years. As I peered in the top of the bag I was aware that the quantity wasn't bad at all - for such a small bag. I reckon there was approximately 18 or so of the small biscuits inside, though this is only an estimate. I didn't think to stop and count them for the purpose of my dooyoo review (oops). I think that by the time I had stopped to smell the delicious orangey biscuits, my greed had overtaken, and I was keen to move onto the taste part of my review, only for the benefit of you lovely dooyooers, of course! :-D

The size of the biscuits can only be described as a mouthful. I don't think I'd waste my time carrying out my usual jaffa cake-eating technique when it comes to eating the Mister Choc variety. My usual technique, I should point out, involves eating the soft sponge base first, then biting off the chocolate before popping the orangey jelly bit into my mouth. (And I KNOW that some of you fellow dooyooers employ this same technique so no scolding me for my horrible manners, please!) ;-) The Mister choc biscuits are just far too small to even consider eating using my usual technique, so for that reason I tend to just eat them one at a time, without biting into them first... *blush*.

The taste is pretty much similar to any other jaffa cakes I have tried in the past, although I did find the orangey bit was a bit sharper in this brand. I find it quite difficult to describe the sharper taste other than to say it was a bit tarter, although I have often found this to be the case with several other cheaper brands. In the past, with cheaper brands however, the orangey bit has been almost unpleasant to eat because it is so sharp, and it has most certainly put me off from buying the brand again. Not so with the Mister Choc brand; I tend to buy these almost weekly now! I think it is safe to say that I am well and truly converted! :-D

Myself and my partner recently had a buffet-style lunch for some family and friends and I opted to put out a small selection of different cakes and biscuits. I found that these were perfect for this occasion because of their dainty size. I put the small jaffa cakes on a plate and arranged them in circles, with other small, circular-shaped biscuits in-between them, so that the pattern went; jaffa cake, biscuit, jaffa cake, biscuit, and so on. Very pretty it was too, and several of our guests commented on how cute the small jaffa cake biscuits were!

The success of the mini jaffa cakes at this occasion makes me think that they would also be highly successful at similar buffet-style events or perhaps for children's parties? They are certainly the right size for smaller hands! :-D

Apologies lovely dooyooers, I cannot on this occasion tell you about the calorie and fat content of the product because my darling other half took it upon himself to throw the packaging in the bin! Why he chose this occasion to start trying out his tidying-up technique is beyond me! Typical...! >:-o

I would definitely recommend these little jaffa cakes. I buy them on a regular basis and enjoy them each time I do. Just be warned though, once that bag's open, you'll find it difficult to close it back over.....!! (Or maybe it's just me?!) *blushes again* :-o

Full marks this time, Mr Lidl!
