It is a strict policy of our household to avoid all products with any connection to Lloyd Grossman. This not only due to his annoying media persona, but also because I once attended a dinner celebrating the role of museums. At the time, LG had been appointed some kind of Museums Tsar, or something ridiculous. Anyway, he should have been a good speaker. But he wasn't - he was rubbish. It was all about ten years ago, but I continue to hold a grudge. However, due to a mixture of exhaustion, boredom and the fact that they were on offer, I breached the embargo and purchased Loyd (only one 'L' - even the way he spells his own name is annoying) ... I don't know if everyone has the time to sit and grind their own spices whenever they fancy making a curry for tea, but as a busy mum I know I certinly don't! This is where Loyd Grossman's excellent range of curry sauces comes in dead handy! The sauce comes in a curvy 350g jar, which feeds around four people and is easily identifiable by it's cream and black label with Loyd Grossman's mug leering out at you. The sauce itself isn't as greasy as some ready made curry sauces and the spices taste fresh. There isn't that awful after taste that some sauces seem to have either. The jalfrezi sauce isn't too hot, so it's ideal if you've got a sensitive ... Read the complete review

Whilst shopping in Asda recently for some small bits I walked past a shelf display that had all the Loyd Grossman sauces on offer for just £1 each - normally when doing the big shop I always pick up a couple of these anyway and normally buy one as a pasta sauce and then also one for a curry. Being only a £1 it would be silly not to buy them now rather than waiting until I came to get the main shopping. I then decided I may as well also try one of the ones we hadn't had before from the range and so bought this Jalfrezi sauce. The sauce: This is a premixed Jalfrezi sauce that you can add to cooked meat to make a curry. The jar tells me it is a blend ... Read the complete review

I recently bought a jar of this curry sauce from the Lloyd Grossman range in my local Asda where they had them on special offer for 2 jars for £2. This seems to be a pretty good deal because now that the offer has ended I noticed that they are priced at £2 per jar. Each jar contains 425g of sauce which I use to serve 2 and I think to be honest that is about the right amount for a portion. You could serve 3 at a push out of this jar, maybe if you watered down the sauce a little. But it serves two just nice. Half a jar contains 200 calories and 3.1g of saturated fat which equates to 3.5 weight watchers points which is not bad for a curry sauce. This ... Read the complete review

This sauce is yummy! Who can be bothered with ten jars of spices to be ground up, toasted, cooked for 12 hours, using umpteen pots just to make a curry sauce that never lives up to expectations. Far easier is opening a jar of Loyd's Jalfrezi sauce! I usually stir-fry some diced chicken, tiger prawns, onion and green pepper. Add the sauce to the cooked meat and vegetables and heat for a few minutes (without bringing to the boil), add a squeeze of lemon juice to bring out the flavours. Served up with some basmati rice and a naan bread, this really is a tasty meal. If adding meat and vegetables, I would say a jar would easily serve three ... Read the complete review
