Advantages: Tastes delicious, makes for a filling meal, simple to prepare

Disadvantages: Quite high in fat

My sister in law has been telling me to try Lloyd Grossman sauces for ages, and when I never got around to buying any she bought a jar for our lunch along with some cooked chicken and forced me into the kitchen.

There are lots of flavours available, but she chose the Tomato, Spinach and Ricotta which suited me down to the ground as I like a tomato based sauce and the ingredients all appealed to me.

When I opened the jar I was surprised by the rich aroma of the sauce, it's intensely tomatoey and has a lovely herby smell to it. It's very easy to prepare, I simply poured the sauce into a pan and added the chicken. I simmered it for five or ten minutes until the chicken was thoroughly reheated and served on a bed of pasta.

It makes an absolutely delicious meal, the sauce is as rich as the aroma would suggest. It's a heavenly base of rich sun dried tomatoes which has been mixed with pieces of perfectly cooked spinach. The obvious flavour of ricotta adds a creaminess to the sauce which is the finishing touch to it in my opinion.

The sauce is thick and heavy, coating the chicken pieces to perfection and infusing it with the lovely flavours. Likewise it clings to the pasta beautifully, filling the entire meal with the wonderful tomato flavour.

I really enjoyed the meal I created within minutes using this sauce, I shall certainly buy it again and will try some of the other varieties. The jar I am using is 350g and contains 87 calories per 100g and 4.8g of fat, this isn't bad but there are lower fat sauces on the market although these are not at all as flavoursome as this one.

Summary: A delicious sauce which is a piece of cake to cook.
