... reviewing. So anyway, I opened the packaging at one end, like a giant chocolate bar and was immediately greeted by the scent of golden syrup. When I began to dig in to the cake I could tell it was going to be perfect for my needs. This cake isn't fluffy, it is rather stodgy but moist enough to make yourr mouth water. Each bite is filled with the taste of golden syrup, but thankfully not overwhelmingly so, or I suspect I wouldn't have gotten through half of it with relative ease. This cost me £1.22 from a local shop but...more

For me going shopping when hungry is fatal, as I always end up buying stuff I would normally walk past in the bakery aisle! The other day was no exception, I hadn't had tea and was in Tesco and to make matters worse I needed to get some bread, so I had to go in the dreaded aisle... Fatal! There, sitting at the end of the row of tempting goodies was a reduced items "bin" and sitting happily on the top of this was a packet of these naughty little things. They tempted me with the colour of the packet that is the same colour as a Tate and Lyle Golden Syrup tin, the Lion emblem in the centre (you know the one with a dead lion and some bee's ...  Read the complete review

This is a golden syrup cake made by the well known company Mcvities. It is packaged in a dark green packet. It has the name Lyle's golden syrup on the front of the packet. The packet has the well known the Lyles lion in the middle. The cake is rectangular in shape. When you first open the cake you can smell the sweetness of the cake. The cake is a very dark, rich brown. It is a very easy to cut cake due to the shape and is very easy to share equally. The cake itself is very moist. It is very, very sweet which would be expected from a Golden syrup cake. The cake is not only moist but also slightly stick and gooey. This must be due to the golden ...  Read the complete review

When visiting Tesco I try to avoid buying cakes and biscuits but every now and again I just have to succumb. Such was the case with Lyles Golden Syrup Cakes. They were sitting on the shelf between Mr Kiplings Bakewell Tarts and Tesco's Chocolate Mini Rolls and seemed to be calling to me. As it happens they were on offer - 99p a pack, so they just happened to slip into my basket. I got home and, as per usual when I've struggled round the supermarket on a Saturday morning, shoved the kettle on for a coffee, while I unpacked my bags. I just couldn't resist - the golden lion on the packet, set against the dark green background, winked and beckoned so ...  Read the complete review
