Advantages: cheap

Disadvantages: too sweet, lots of over/under cooked kernels

I love popcorn! It doesn't matter if it's sweet, salted or toffee flavoured. Better still my husband hates it, so I get to eat it all by myself when I go to the Cinema. There isn't a great deal of choice when it comes to Popcorn and the main brand found in shops and my favourite is Butterkist, so I was intrigued when I came across a new brand of Popcorn and decided to give it a go.

Lyle's Golden Syrup has brought out a new product - Lyle's Golden Syrup Popcorn. For many years Lyle's Golden Syrup has been used to coat popcorn sold in many Cinema branches and you can now buy their popcorn in 200g bags and costs just 89p. I had not seen this product before and the only place you can currently buy it is in Morrison's supermarket, none of the other supermarkets sell it.

Initially, I thought that this would be nice, as the popcorn is coated in their famous syrup. How wrong could I be? To start with the little bits of popcorn were tiny, compared to Butterkist where they are quite big and fluffy. As expected (being coated in syrup) they are very sweet, too sweet in fact and it makes you feel sick after eating a few handfuls. The popcorn has an almost burnt taste to it which left an after taste.

Their popcorn is very hard and the bag contained a lot of unopened popcorn. There is even a warning on the bag saying that there may be unopened kernels, but to have 25% of the bag contain either unopened or only partly cooked kernels is ridiculous. To me popcorn should be 'fluffy' but Lyle's popcorn is so hard that it nearly took out one of my fillings! .

Will Lyle's make me convert to their brand from Butterkist? Absolutely not! The popcorn is too sweet and as the bag contained a lot of unopened kernels, I feel that I was being short changed. I will not buy this brand of popcorn again, so it only gets 1 star from me and isn't recommended.

Ugh; sounds horrible! There doesn't seem a lot of point in very hard popcorn.

Scary stuff for your teeth. I only eat salted popcorn nowadays. :)
