My grandad used to always have this on his toast in the mornings, and still does. He has had this habit for at least the last 15 years, and in the times I've been in his company at breakfast time, I have hooked on to this too! I went off it for a while however, but a few months back, I decided to retry! I opened the lid and was immediatly hit by a strong syrup smell. it caught the back of my nose making me sniff. This was obviously very strong stuff. PING, my toast popped out and it was time for the taste test. I dipped in my knife and took out a big scoop and spread it onto my peices of toast. I could still get the strong sugary smell and I couldnt wait ... Read the complete review

When I was younger I did used to like syrup a bit, but for quite a number of years I didn't really eat it. However out of the blue one day I fancied some syrup! So off I took myself to Tesco to have a look! There were a few varieties of syrup, but the one I decided to go for in the end was Lyle's Golden Syrup, which is what I was used to. The product comes in a circular metal tin, and can be recognised by its distinctive green and appropriately gold colours. On the front there is a picture of a golden lion, which seems a bit random, but is very attractive! opening the tin is not the easiest. It has one of those flat lids indented into the tin, so I tend to use ... Read the complete review

If there is anyone out there that has not tried golden syrup then you need to get out of your cave and to your nearest supermarket to purchase this divine nectar. What has changed about golden syrup that makes this well known product worth reviewing?... the bottle! The Bottle: This product now comes in a plastic squeezy bottle with a hinged cap. On most other products that have followed a similar idea such as Heinz Ketchup and HP Sauce this is very useful, but not quite earth-shattering. Due to the extremely thick nature of golden syrup this ergonomic improvement means that golden syrup is now on a whole new playing field. I cannot imagine I was ... Read the complete review

For as long as I can remember the Lyle's golden Syrup tin has always looked the same and when I took time to research the history of the packaging I found that the tin hard hardly changed since 1885. The Victorian style packaging has gained cult status in the design and packaging world. When everyone had to make sacrifices for the World War I war effort the syrup was packaged in thick cardboard containers in order to save using precious metal. In 1911 Lyle's syrup was awarded a Royal Warrant which has sat in a prominent position on the tin ever since. Lyle's registered their trademark of the `lion and the bees` in 1904. I love Lyle's ... Lyles golden syrup. Whenever I see the green metal tin with a picture of a golden lion on it sleeping under the golden arch my thoughts are taken to winter and Christmas. Winter breakfast porridge sweetened with a spoonful of sweet liquid gold. Winter evenings coming in from the cold fingers tingling to eat Sponge treacle puddings with the sweet syrup beneath. Ginger cakes, gingerbread men, and gingerbread houses all are Christmas treats. If you warm golden syrup a little it will pour out quicker and more easily. Warm a spoon up in a mug of warm water to make it easier to spoon the syrup out of the green tin. Lyles also market this syrup as ... Read the complete review
