I am not doing myself any favours by writing this review because as soon as I start thinking about Lyles Black Treacle I want some. My wife buys this solely for the purpose of baking with, she makes delicious Gingerbread with it as well as treacle cookies and delicious dark rock cakes but I like it straight from the tin too. I love this stuff spread lightly on digestive biscuits and even sometimes have some from the tin with a spoon. Lyles Black Treacle comes in 454g tins which are red in colour and have the famous Lyles sleeping lion on them making them instantly recognisable. I have half a tin of Lyles black treacle in my store cupboard. I used some in my ginger bread at Christmas time. Lyles black treacle comes in 454g tins and 7.257kg bottles. The tin is especially attractive, it's a red tin with the Lyles golden lion sleeping on it an arc of gold over the lion with black printing saying Lyles black treacle. Lyles goes back to 1883 with Abraham Lyle founding a sugar refining factory .The sweet syrup left over after refining sugar was made into golden Syrup.
