Advantages: tastes good, the sponge is great

Disadvantages: too sweet for some?

Battenberg is a fantastic looking cake product by Lyons as well as being a great tasting cake product as well. It is made up by several different parts of sponge and then an outer casing of marzipan as well.

The middle of the cake is the sponge layers, and this is a really nice part of the cake, there are four different kind of layers of sponge, two yellow, or normal coloured sponge square shapes and then two pink and as these go diagonal to each other it kind of makes up a chess board look, except with pink and yellow rather than black and white, and of course with cake as well but you get the idea.

The sponge is very soft and tastes fantastic, and in the middle of the layers of sponge there is a thing layer of a kind of gooey mixture that holds them together, I cant really tell what this is but it doesn't really taste like much and doesn't overpower the taste of the sponge layers.

Then the whole thing is topped off with a thin layer of marzipan, I do quite like marzipan, obviously its very sweet and very sickly so I wouldn't eat this on its own but as a thing layer that goes with the rest of the cake it works well, however the whole thing may be just a little too sweet for some people.
