... is one of my (and many others) favourite cakes. Admittedly I am quite a cake person in general but this is my number one cake. These also come in mini versions where you get five in a box but they just don t last long enough around me. Battenburg cakes are very recognisable. Normally they come in a cardboard sleeve, in this case blue, and are wrapped in cellophane. The sponge in each slice is divided into quarters like a check pattern and is coloured yellow and pink so the yellow square is diagonally opposite to the other yellow square and the same for the pink. ... love everything about battenburgs. I love the marzipan (I have been known to chop chunks of marzipan off the block and eat them), I love the pink-and-yellow checkerboard design, I love the taste, I love the smell, and I think that the combination of overwhelming sweet mazipan and lovely soft spongy cake is wonderful. I think its great that you can choose how much to have, as it isn t already portioned out (which is the only bad thing i have to say about mr kiplings lemon slices).
