Advantages: Tastes lovely, not too many calories for being chocolates

Disadvantages: Sugary junk food

For the past few days at work, we have been having a chocolate and sweetie feast as everyone is bringing in their unwanted Halloween sweets and sharing them around. Today was heaven as someone brought in a bunch of Maltesers (along with some other chocolate from Nestle that was vastly inferior!). Maltesers have always been one of my favourite chocolates.

Maltesers come in a red packet that is very simply decorated with the word Maltesers across the front and drawings of Maltesers themselves all over it. The simplicity of the packet mirrors the simplicity of this chocolate as the pieces inside are all exactly the same as each other. I prefer this to other chocolates because I always know what I'm going to get when I bite into one. Surprises are fine in other areas of life, but don't mess with my chocolate!

Maltesers are round balls about the size of a large marble. They are made up of a malted milk biscuit filling enrobed in milk chocolate. When you bite in, the first taste you get is that of the chocolate and then you crunch into the malted biscuit which complements the chocolate perfectly. I find that neither taste is overwhelming and they work very well together.

What I particularly like about Maltesers is that the quality of the chocolate, for being mass-produced cheap stuff, is quite high. This was really brought home to me today when eating them alongside some Nestle Munchies. The Malteser chocolate was so much better than the Nestle. The Nestle tasted cheap, overly sweetened, and a bit bland. Malteser chocolate on the other hand was rich, just the right sweetness, and very more-ish. In fact I went back for more so many times my boss asked me why I didn't just take a doggie-bag (grrrrr!).

A small bag of these (i.e. a mini-bag or treat size bag like what you would give out for Halloween) contains 98 calories. This isn't bad if you can restrict yourself to just one bag (I never can!). If you buy a large bag in the shop you will probably pay around 45-60p for it and it will contain 187 calories. Not bad at all for chocolates!

Summary: I can't resist being teased by maltesers

I think Maltesers aren't any good unless consumed by the boxful.
