Advantages: Satisfy our chocolate cravings
Disadvantages: You could eat both on the same day!
Now since I started my diet (again!) several weeks ago I have managed to stop eating chocolate which, as you can imagine, has been an extremely hard thing to do especially as I am a chocoholic, liking it (chocolate, I mean, not anything else!) in any shape or form. But, just recently, I have been craving the stuff, just absolutely craving, must have it. Now, when the craving gets that bad, I have to have my injection of the stuff. But how can I have something ?chocolatey? without it costing me any weight gain? How can I manage it? I think I have found the answer:- Marks & Spencer Count On Us 2 Chocolate Chip Sponge and Chocolate Custard Desserts As is customary each Friday evening, I was browsing through the food aisles in M&S, especially the Count On Us section, and was looking at all the desserts and turning each one over, in turn, to check the KCal and saturated fat contents. This act in itself thoroughly annoys my long suffering husband. ?Do you ALWAYS have to do that!? he ALWAYS says! Course I do, why do you have to ask! Then I saw it. The lovely little chocolate delight was beckoning to me on the shelf ?why don?t you buy me and try me, you?ll like me, I promise, I promise?. Ok, ok, I thought, how much will you cost me though? I bet you?re going to be too costly, not only in money, but content, you little blighter! Let me check you through. I picked you up quite carefuly, cos I didn?t want to handle you too much. You might be a very delicate little dessert. You come in a carton containing two plastic pots each weighing 125g. The top of your package shows a gorgeous picture of you. In fact, you look like a little pudding with a skirt on! (pun, folks!). You look far too good to be true! You state you contain less than 3% fat and contain only 180 KCal per dessert. Aha, you cunning little thing, over in the right hand bottom corner you show your true colours, your price of £1.79 but to entice your punters you will give a spe
cial offer of a saving of £1 off the price when two packs are bought! Sounds like a bit of a groupie thing to me! Think I need to sample you first before getting into groupie sponges. Now that is expensive for two little sponge desserts. Are you worth it? Sorry, but I must flip you onto your backside to see if your claims are true. Yes, each 125g pot has 180KCal with 1.4g saturated fat. So far, so good. You also state that products such as these are not out of the question for those of us on diets, that you have gone that extra mile to carefully select all those lovely ingredients which bring us the great taste and flavour in this range of low calorie, low fat, salt controlled diets. So, the question is: to buy or not to buy. ?Hurry up then,? hubby says, so in order to avoid an argument, I put you in the basket hoping that you are worth the price you are unashamedly asking. You lay in the fridge until Monday evening when my craving was so bad I just had to bring you in from the cold. Before I could eat you though I had to go to my bosom pal, Peter Computer, to check if your claims were totally true, that I could you eat you on my Slimming World diet. Wow, Slimming World informed me that you would cost me 7.5 sins on both Original and Green Plans. Goodness, I could eat you, I could eat you! You?d be a nice little tasty treat for me. I didn?t want to be too greedy so I just got your twin out first and put you back in the fridge for another day. Your warm up instructions told me to pop you in my 850W microwave for just 40 seconds (first piercing your fine plastic top covering)! Easy peasy! Out you come, steaming hot and I leave you to stand for a few seconds to heat through. You have to be really hot before you can perform at your best. I then strip off your outer plastic layer and you appear naked apart from your little choc chips showing through like a weightlifter?s muscles. Where is your sauce? But then I see it at the bottom
and when I turn you bottoms up into my bowl your sexiness just oozes through! Your deep, velvety, thick sauciness just runneth over! My spoon excitedly slithers through the sexy sauce into the voluptuous light, spongy layer beneath. I put the spoonful of chocolatey sponge into my mouth. Will you taste as good as you look? Are you the proverbial ?mutton dressed as lamb?? You do not disappoint me, my trusty little sponge. You are full of flavour, just as you promised me, down to the last chocolate chip. You just melt in my mouth! Yum, yum! My finger slides around the edges of your bowl to soak up any remaining bit of chocolate sauce. I haven?t done that since I don?t know when. You are simply mouth watering and delicious. Yes, you are worth every penny I paid for you. Yes, I will visit your aisle more often, so make sure you are always there to service me. Yes, I will be one of your regulars. Don?t forget now cos I won?t forget you a hurry.

- 07/05/04 These sounds gorgeous. I'm on diet too. At the moment even cardboard is starting to look potentially intersting if smothered in cream cheese. :P |
