Advantages: Tastes great, smells nice, good texture
Disadvantages: I don't normally shop in M & S
Under normal circumstances I wouldn't consider doing my food shopping in Marks and Spencer's mainly because I just can't afford it! I have been in today for two reasons - firstly because it was convenient as Dave still can't drive after his operation and secondly I had £10 left on a £30 voucher that I had been given for my birthday at the end of last year.
As you probably know by now Dave and I are following the Slimming World diet plan and finding it really good so I looked in the book giving the lists of branded free foods and found that M & S Count On Us yogurts were all listed there.
Being a 'free' food means that we can eat as much as we like whenever we like so that's great! What I do is make up a pint of sugar free jelly each morning and split it into four separate glass dishes each containing fresh fruit and then, when we come to eat the jelly, we put yogurt on the top to make a kind of trifle.
The individual M & S yoghurts currently retail at 49p each for a carton containing 170g of yogurt and it is fat free. The one that we have just tried is the vanilla flavour.
The plastic pot is white with pictures of the vanilla flower on it and looks very fresh and clean. The wording on the side and on the plastic lid states that the contents are 'count on us thick and creamy probiotic yogurt vanilla'.
The information on the plastic peel off lid tells us that there are no artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives in the contents so that's good too and that there are only 75 calories in each pot.
You just peel off the foil lid, lick it of course, and there you see the yogurt and smell the lovely aroma of vanilla.
The yoghurt itself is white in colour with little black bits in it which, having looked at the list of contents, I find is ground vanilla pod.
So let's get onto the important bit - the taste!
Well the yoghurt is smooth and creamy in texture and it tastes as though it is much naughtier than fat free yogurt! The vanilla taste is quite mild but very nice. We ate ours poured over a raspberry sugar free jelly with fresh raspberries in it and the flavours complimented one another perfectly.
The only comment I would make here is that the yogurt isn't as thick as say Muller Light for example. The M & S one poured from the pot onto the jelly quite easily but this fact in no way detracted from the taste.
The nutrition value of 100g of yogurt is;
Calories 45
Protein 4.5g
Carbohydrates 6.3g
Of which sugars 4.9g
Fat 0.1g
Salt 0.15g
The yogurt is suitable for vegetarians and must be kept refrigerated but not frozen.
The plastic lid and pot can both be recycled so that's another point in its favour as far as I am concerned.
As part of my shopping today I purchased this one together with two packs each of four different flavours so there'll be another eight to tell you about over the next few days! LOL!
Summary: A yummy M & S yogurt
