Advantages: great price, great taste

Disadvantages: M&S isn't always easy to get to

I don’t really consider myself a big Marks & Spencer fan. A lot of people rave about the place as if it were the best thing in the world but I don’t see it. I always give it many chances though in the food section in particular and usually find some kind of good offer. The other day I went into the Simply Food store just for a look as I wasn’t expecting to buy any over priced chicken or something of the sort. I got some crisps though and then decided to go to the chocolate section because they have a good range. Then I spotted an old favourite of mine Percy Pigs.

I don’t know why but these pigs are probably M&S’s most infamous product on the sweet shelf. I know I used to buy them a lot as did my friends and we would all fight over the remaining pigs. I have also mentioned them to a few people who have exclaimed back to me ‘PERCY PIGS!’ with a huge smile so I don’t think I am the only one who considers them a weakness but a good one indeed.

So if you have trouble spotting the pigs which you shouldn’t because they seem to be plotted all around the shop. They come in a plastic packet which comes in 2 sizes, I was on a bit of a budget the other day so I went for the smaller packet. The smaller packet costs 65p which is good and the bigger packet is 99p, I think but at my store they were doing buy one get the second half price. The bag is 100g so it’s not too bad either.

So the bag is clearly directed at the younger children but I don’t care because we’re all big kids at heart. The bag is bright pink and green. The green is meant to be grass with daisies in it. There is a barrier and the pig is lodge up over it smiling. The stable in the centre is there and the back is clear so you can see into the bag. I think it’s a nice design as it is simple, immature but friendly and welcoming. It’s easy to see these because of their identifiable colours.

The back of the packet is all green and has nutritional information on it, The pigs are 25 calories per sweet which I don’t consider to be bad but if you’re like me who is easily turned into a pig addict when opening a bag of these one will never be enough and that’s when it starts to turn bad.

So the pigs themselves are soft chewy sweets. They are pig heads so it is a light pink colour and the ears are a darker clearer pink. The pig face is smiling and is actually quite a big size. The sweets smell really nice it’s a faint strawberry sweet smell and I like it. The sweets are made with fruit juice so this makes them even better tasting.

The taste of these pigs is a very good taste. Ok so I won’t be that vague, first I usually bite the ears off and then finish off the rest of the head but of course everyone has a different style of eating them. They taste really juicy and fruit which is nice and they are nice and chewy but not too chewy that it will hurt your teeth. They taste really light too so it doesn’t seem like they are really that fattening.

So, if you want to buy these pigs they are only sold at Marks & Spencer stores because it’s their official product. The prices are as listed above and the small bag is not that much smaller than the bigger one but it’s really up to how much you want to spend. I you want to buy thee pigs online I have actually noticed that they can be bought at this store here http://www.britsuperstore.com although they are more expensive on this than in store but if any of you don’t live in the UK or within easy acces to a Marks & Spencer store it is always an option.

The 100g packet costs £1.65 on this website and the bigger packet 200g costs £2.09. I noticed they have a Percy Pigs and Pals packet which I haven’t seen myself before that also costs £2.09 and looks fun too.

Although it seems to be a younger audience their packaging is aimed at I feel their customers are a wide variety. They are a really good price and for the money the bag is never just half full but full to the top so that you get a lot of pigs. These are always in stock when I go.

Super review - Thanks!! my husband works for the company in Germany who make Percy (also Percy and his Pals). It is worth to mention that they contain no artificial preservatives, flavours or colours ( unlike Haribo products).
