Advantages: Good quality sweets

Disadvantages: Maybe too sweet for some

At work we have reached a new low, which consists of us rushing out to the new M&S of a lunchtime and stocking up on lots of unhealthy cake whilst complaining to the poor checkout people about how much we hate our jobs.

So it was inevitable that after a while we would come across Percy Pig. One of my friends wrinkled her nose up as we stopped by the sweet aisle and pointed out the pigs, claiming they were too sweet. However, I vaguely remembered them having good reviews (I know, you don't need to tell me how sad I am....), and thought why not.

I think we paid just over a pound for them, and you do get a lot in a bag which I wasn't really expecting. They are sold in bags of just like plain Percy Pigs, as above, but also in mixed farmyard bags with cows and perhaps sheep (?) in different colours.

Each jelly sweet is pretty big, probably bigger than a 50p piece, and are nice and chewy. They do have a very sweet fruity flavour, but I found it pleasant rather than overpowering. Then again I do have a very sweet tooth, so these might not be for everyone. However, my friends who normally complain about things being too sweet really enjoyed them too.

It's slightly depressing eating a pig's face, particularly as they look so happy, but me and my greediness managed to overcome this. They are quite soft, which makes it surprising they are so chewy, but it does mean one on its own can take a while to eat (well, longer than you'd expect anyway).

I don't tend to buy a lot of sweets when I'm shopping on my own, and definitely not this size bag because I wouldn't be able to stop once I'd started, but for an occasional treat to share they are pretty good. Unfortunately Percy will be forever outlawed in our office as everyone prefers chocolate, but people seemed fairly keen on him and we may buy these again.

I'm not entirely sure what/who the target market is supposed to be because these are big packs, so I would hazard a guess at families and kids' birthday parties. But we still enjoyed them!

Summary: Good now and then
