Advantages: Lovely flavour, good value, low calorie content
Disadvantages: Marketing Men are taking over!
It seems to me that these old fashioned sweets have become something of a fashionable item recently, all the women I know love Percy Pigs. They are a pink pig shaped sweet sold by Marks and Spencers in their foodhall.
A 100g pack of Percy Pigs costs 79p, the sweets themselves are shaped like a piggys face, it is a foamy sweet with jelly ears, the raspberry flavour is quite strong and the nice contrast between the chewy jelly and the foamy content is very nice. The packs are a very nice talking point as everyone seems to have an opinion on these sweets.
They are a popular sweet which taste good, a packet can easily be devoured in 10 minutes and its definitely worth paying extra for the 170g pack. The sweets are generally on sale close to the check outs, but with the popularity of these sweets Marks and Spencers are clearly looking to branch out with new flavours, including one with additional cola and grape flavours known as Percy Pig & Pals. lemon-flavoured Penny Pigs and smaller Percy Piglets In August 2009, "Phizzy pig tails" was added to the range.
The bag is a nice pink one, with a clear window making it look slightly like a pig pen with the faces showing out, they can be eaten by all ages and the bags are easy to open.
The sweets are made in Germany and have been around in the UK since the First World War when they were penny sweets.
Each sweet is 25 calories and this should set you back around 350 calories if you eat a whole bag, but compared to a single chocolate bar or soft drink, this is fairly gentle and shouldn't put you off enjoying yourself and making a pig of yourself!!
As with any popular brand, Percy Pig is now being flogged for every penny, with Percy Pig clothing ranges and books coming out. Overall the sweets are lovely and Moorish.
Summary: Go on make a pig of yourself
