Advantages: Novelty shape and great flavour

Disadvantages: A little too sweet

Percy Pigs are the only thing that come to my mind when I think of Marks and Spencer confectionary. For anyone out of the loop then I will explain that Percy Pigs are Raspberry flavour fruit gums in the shape of a pigs face. Each sweet is a little bit bigger than the size of a 50p piece and is a few millimetres thick.

When I first bought them I really didn't know what sort of flavour to expect as the packaging doesn't really make it clear. The packaging is really cute as the bag is pink and green and mostly opaque apart from a little transparent window that is made to look like a pig pen where you can see the little pig faces of the poking through. I think this is a great touch.

On to the sweets themselves. As I mentioned before it is hard to know what to expect when you first pick up Percy. The aesthetics of the pigs are not the only thing about them that make them fun. They also taste amazing. Biting into him the sweets are squishy but in a really light way. The texture of the sweets is really soft and they are really easy to eat and not a lot of chewing is needed.

The flavour is a sudden rush of fruitiness. It is hard to describe but it does not immediately taste like raspberries. The taste is also very sweet which would be explained by the 5.6g of sugar per pig! Each pig also contains 25 calories which is quite a lot if you end up eating a whole sty...I mean bag...

Having eaten a small handful of Percys I then felt a little sick and had to stop eating. The flavour then sticks around in your mouth for a while so you can't escape the flavour for a while. The sweetness does become a bit overwhelming so I would advise self control if possible. Overall I would say that Percy Pigs are delicious treats to try but don't eat too many or you may wish to turn vegetarian. :-)

Summary: Great tasting sweets from M&S
