I absolutely adore marmite whilst my husband cannot stand it . To anyone who has never tasted it the flavour is very distinctive , unmistakable and hard to describe . One reason Marmite is packaged in such a small jar is you only need a thin scraping of it as the flavour is very strong . I must admit I like a little more but too much and even I would would squirm . WHAT IS MARMITE Marmite is a very dark brown colured , sticky , thick substance which can be spread on bread and crackers or whatever really . It is made of yeast extract and has a savoury , meaty flavour . I especially like it spread on toast or crispbreads with a thin coating of ... Read the complete review

I am one of the people who love Marmite but I can understand why some people hate it. It is because it has such a very strong taste that people can go either way and I have never met anyone who has said Marmite is OK, it is always that they love or hate it. The taste is hard to describe I think. It is salty and it has a meat flavour even though it is suitable for vegetarians so no meat products are used to make it. Marmite is a yeast extract and I would agree that there is a taste of yeast and also something else that in 60 years I have never been able to identify. If you are watching your weight then Marmite is very good because it is low in calories and fat ... Read the complete review

I love it. You either love it or hate it so I must love it and must rate it 5 stars. But seriously, I think it's lovely. It has a very unique and distinct taste to it, which boosts it above other spreads. It tastes great with loads of different things too...cheese, pepper, onions; you just have to try for yourself! The first experimental extracts for Marmite were made in November 1902, but it took a further 2 years to 'perfect the flavour'. Marmite has been going for over a century now! People soon realised that it had the richest source of vitamin B, which keep nerves, the brain and the digestion system in working order. So people, Marmite is actually ... Read the complete review

There can be few people who haven’t heard of marmite; afterall it’s been around since 1902! Marmite is made from yeast extract, a by-product of beer brewing. Marmite is a good source of B vitamins so is really useful for anyone who is anaemic as well as being a good source of folic acid. The Marmite advert says that there are those who hate Marmite and those who love it-no middle ground! I am in the love it camp and seriously couldn’t live without it. I can however understand why some may hate it. The taste of Marmite is strong and unique, there really is nothing like it. I suppose the taste can be best described as a yeasty salty taste. You only need a ... Read the complete review

I really think that this is the sort of food you either love or hate. It is also perhaps something that you have to grow up with in order to really appreciate. Many people from countries that do not have marmite, such as the USA, hate it when the first try it at an older age. FOr myself, I really love Marmite, especially on toast with butter, and with cheese. It's a great alternative to peanut butter, which is high in fat, or jams, which are high in sugar. INstead, Marmite is actually good for you - it is high in vitamin B and other necessary vitamins and minerals. Other great ideas for using Marmite are that you can add a little bit in a soup for ...
