Marmite has two camps as they say; you either love it or hate it. I am quite frankly a member of the love it's! Marmite, appearance wise doesn't look overly appealing, its thick black and almost treacle looking. And as a smell, is well unique....
Made from vegetable extract Marmite is suitable for vegetarians. In general I use it on things like toast, and this is quite simply one of those things that get you going (its my replacement for Wheatabix).
If you have yet to try Marmite I would suggest you give it a go, but upon first taste if you don't like it don't give up on it! Many children hate it, but then rediscover it as adults, I'm one of these, and I'm very grateful for our University chapel opening on Friday evening to let us drunkards eat toast......
Health wise Marmite is really good for you as it contains vitamin B12 and folic acid.
