Advantages: tastes great, lots of vitamins

Disadvantages: Salty, not great for blood pressure

I love marmite.

It tastes like nothing else on earth, which makes it hard to describe but great to eat. On opening a jar of marmite the first thing that hits you is the smell. Marmite is made from yeast so opening a jar of marmite is a bit like going past a brewery, a yeasty smell mixed with salt that is completely unique and prepares you for the assault your tastebuds are about to recieve.

It looks unappetising. Thick, dark and tarry. If it has been in a cold cupboard it is hard to even get out of the jar. Spreading it on soft bread is impossible, toast is best.

When you have persevered and spread the marmite you are rewarded by the most fantastic taste. Strong, salty, yeasty, faintly metallic. Unlike any other food on earth. One slice of toast and marmite is never enough, another one at least is necessary.

It does look a bit pricey in comparison to jam. A big jar will set you back about a fiver but will last ages. Also because it is so strong nothing grows in it so it never goes off.
